Yes, we’re all sick and tired of hearing about the Luka Modric saga. It’s become pointless trying to keep up with the twists and turns of this story, as what’s being reported seems to change on a daily basis. One day we’ll be told that he’s close to agreeing terms with Real Madrid, and the next we’ll hear that the deals off.

We’ll also get occasional links from Manchester United and Chelsea, just to keep us on our toes. Where that leaves us standing, it’s hard to know. It’s a story that’s run out of control and there are now very few people who know the truth of the situation. Not wanting to be outdone by their North London rivals, Arsenal are currently suffering under similar circumstances as a result of the antics of their wantaway captain Robin Van Persie.

But let’s return to Modric for a moment and try and found our bearings. The Sun claim that Real Madrid are ready to pull out of a £36m deal for Modric, because Tottenham want more money up front. How dare they!

It’s believed that Real Madrid are looking to pay £30m upfront and then pay a further six in add-ons over five years. Tottenham, have other ideas. The Sun quote a ‘White Hart Lane Source’, who says:

‘The chairman is still holding out for £40m, but many think he will accept a little less providing nearly all of the fee is paid up front.’

Doesn’t that quote sound conveniently tailored to meet the thrust of The Suns article? Regardless, this had led many, Emirates 24/7 included to claim that the door’s been left open for Manchester United to sneak in and secure the move.

With the kind of performances that Modric puts in on a weekly basis, it’s none too surprising that he’s attracted the attention of Manchester United, who are looking to bolster their midfield. There have been complaints at times regarding a lack of spark from the centre of United’s midfield and the likes of Michael Carrick and Anderson have often been scapegoated for poor performances. With Paul Scholes on the way out, the belief is that United need to sign a big name talent this summer.

Luka Modric is certainly a big name. He’s got the creative ability to pump life back into Manchester United’s midfield. Whilst he’s not a tough-tackler like Scholes, he can offer a good deal going forward. Manchester United have always been an attacking minded team and he’d fit in nicely.

So maybe the time’s right for Manchester United to dive back into this transfer saga after all?

By all means try to get your bearings. How many times do you have to be informed that Chairman Levy will NOT sell Modric to Manu or Chelsea?

Carick and Berbatov was enough. Go find another farm club.

  • ged says:

*YAWN* his price is £40m, at least get that right in your title. Think of something better, cuz this is DULL…

  • phil says:

I really hope you dont get paid to write this drivel. Why on earth would levy sell to a rival club ie man who shited or cheatski n let alone for the same price as we’ve rejected for Real. I mean really are you honestly that thick that you believe what you’ve wrote????

  • Barry says:

wouldn’t you say the truth is that Levy has said he can go for a price & no team has come up with the price? The rest is paper bull or clubs trying to force the issue. Simples!

  • Essexspur says:

Just one problem, Manure have not got the money either!

  • Marty says:

This guy is not worth 20 million let alone 40 million. I dont think Utd are even the remotest bit interested any more. He has got to be the most over rated player in the history of the game. Real Madrid or Spurs are welcome to him.

  • Marty says:

Essexspur – Man Utd (the most successful team in England ever). Have just spent 21 million on 2 players… How much has spuds spent??? Ye would all like to believe Utd are skint but guess what?? they are not.. Just signed the most lucrative deal in the history of football. 65 million dollars a year for 7 years and 100million dollar activation fee… Keep dreaming mate!! That alone will service any depth Utd have. Wishful thinking, Utd are going nowhere.

    • Tommo says:

19 million on 2 players, so not much different. Back fired slightly….. Your argument i mean

    • Next bus to Woolwich! says:

it’s funny though Marty that man ure’s debt has been recorded at over 700 million though isn’t it?? Go back to Salford pal,or most likely somewhere in Surrey, you glory hunter!!

    • stujam says:

Modric is better than anyone in your centre midfield now, not as good as Scholes at his best, but better than any of yours right now.
Levy will not sell to Manu unless they go beyond his valuation. Ferguson has at times walked all over other clubs with his we are M.Utd but it no longer works.

  • Tony says:

Indyfan is right, Levy gave a pledge after the Berbatosser affair that he would not do business with Manure or Old Purple Nose again. Also the other point is that the stock issue on Wall Street is not going to result in the Govan bruiser getting extra funds. Around £75m to reduce the debts, £25m to pay for the issue, and the rest into the back pockets of the thieving Glazers. And that’s assuming anyone wants the stock, that has no dividend, and virtually no voting rights. Think again!!!

  • sonde says:

i just want to speak for football reasons only. i think MAN UTD needs MODRIC more than MADRID. If madrid get him, he will be a cover-up prayer. But at UNITED, the GAFFER,will have to use him as KEY, no doubt about that. Modric is a better prayer than any of our current midfielders, {except SCHOLES, SAF had to recall him to help us cross the line}, if it was my call, would pay the fee to get him. As to the new additions to the team, and going forward, it is a wait and see situation, time will tell.

  • Paul says:

The reason SPURS have put an inflated Price on MODRIC is twofold.
    1. To put clubs off cos of the FEE

    2. They don’t want to lose him(by the way he is also a contracted player) and we will not sell him to another PL Club.

So suck it up PRINCESSES he AINT GOING NOW-WHERE UNLESS WE GET THE CASH WE WANT!!!

  • Yayan kumo says:

Man u must look for midfilder if not what happen last season will be repeted i.e ending a season trophyless… But i din’t prey so….

  • Shina says:

Truely modric is gud and a better player than moura, utd av d money but nt want 2 waste money again. Most of d players they bought high fuck up.And those bought cheap are nw performing wela.Babatop, anderson are gud examples.

  • Emmawhiteman2015 says:

SAF should him cos he’s d type of player Man U needs,d amount not too much for a player like Luka Modric he can fit-in in utd i luv to c him @ OT. Utd 4eva.

  • Marty says:

    seriously guys,
What in the name of all thats good in football has Modric ever done. He doesn’t enough goals, or assists(4 goals last season and 6 assists) he goes missing in big games. By the way, Ashley, young, Valancia, Scholes and Nani all have better stats than Madric. The guy is the most over rated player. Who the hell are spuds to be calling the shots. the guy doesn’t want to playe for them he wants to go to a bigger club. Take your pick there are hundreds bigger! Lets hop it’s not Utd though because I certainly wount pay that much for the return he offers!

    • Tony says:

There is much more to football than stats. Often Modric sets Bale or Lennon free, who then crosses for Ade, VDV or Defoes to score. QED- striker gets goal, Lennon or Bale gets assist, Modric gets idiots like you talking crap. In the 2010/11 season Xavi scored 3 goals, and delivered 7 assists, a total of 10, the same as Modric last season. He was playing for the best team in the world, in an easier league. I doubt if many observers said he was rubbish, indeed he was voted 3rd best player in the world. As for your last point – Spurs are calling the shots because his contract expires on 30th June 2016, and he won’t be going to a club that’s skint…..dickhead!
