When Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers isn’t courting players from his ex-team Swansea City, he tends to look abroad to bring players in. Indeed, the Reds have been linked to a wide range of players and it’s difficult to know what’s true and what’s a complete fabrication. One thing’s for sure: Liverpool need to make additions to their squad this summer if they’re to improve next season. If they’re to have any chance of competing at the top of the table, they’ll have to make some major changes.

Of course, given their dreadful showing in the transfer market last summer, they’ll have to exercise some caution too. They can’t throw their money around and get caught out on players like Stewart Downing. It’s Rodger’s unenviable task to find players who can improve the squad at a budget. Let’s hope that he can unearth a few gems!

Which brings me to Liverpool’s links to Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby. The talented 21-year old, who shares English and German nationality is clearly keen on a move to the Premier League and has been linked to Liverpool a number of times. (Source: Goal.com).

His contract at the Veltins-Arena is set to expire next summer his club are working hard to get him to agree new terms. As for the player himself, he told reporters:

“I am very happy in Schalke. But I would be lying if I said I will definitely extend may contract. My dream was always the Premier League – and someday I will make this step.”

So why don’t Liverpool give him an exit route? Well check out these quotes from Sky Sports: “My father is English and of course my favourite teams are Everton and Arsenal.

“My father was born in England and was an Everton fan since the age of five. He immediately infected me with the Everton virus! Since then I have been an Everton fan and have always followed their games. My thoughts now are first with Schalke but you never know.”

The main thing that stands in his way? He’s an Everton fan. But can Reds see past this difficulty and support a move for a talented youngster? We’ve all heard reports of his ability and he fits Liverpool’s modus operandi of buying young British (German?) talent.

It’s his dream move and he’s the kind of player who can improve Liverpool moving forward, without costing them a fortune. So is it worth testing the waters with a bid?

Liverpool fans may well feel that they can do better, but there’s no telling just how good Holtby will be in the future.

What’s your take? Would he be a good addition to Liverpool’s squad?

Ian Rush, Michael Owen, Steve McMahon, Jamie Carragher and Steve McManaman were all Everton supporters. There’s even a picture doing the rounds of Stevie Me la in an Everton kit. I think you’re clutching at straws with this one.

Here’s my take: you’re one bad bell. A bad bell whos probably done a social media study for a worthless A Level and has a ridiculous pipe dream of being a journalist. Anyone starting any sort of article with a title explaining how what theyre about to write is some sort of solution for a multi million business has disappeared up their own pimply arse. You’re not off Dragons Den so swerve it.

Can you never post on the internet again ever please.

    Nice one.
