Will this Manchester United newbie get any game time?

|

With world class striker Wayne Rooney in the team and strong rumours for striker Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid (Source: Bleacher Report). The answer we all want to know: where will Nick Powell fit in?

Powell is a young prospect from from Crewe Alexandra who now has the opportunity of a life time. People took notice of the 18 year old after a sublime goal in the 2012 play-off final. He has signed a deal reported to be in the region of £6 million and has been given the number 25 shirt replacing Antonio Valencia.

I expect United to play the possible Falcao (should he arrive) as the main striker with Rooney playing just behind with the talented youngster on the bench. I’m a great fan of him, I especially love seeing players progress through the ranks and getting there chance to play at the highest level. Powell has been a part of the “Crewe” (couldn’t help myself) since the age of only 5 years old and now has his chance to make a name for himself.

But the step up to Manchester United is likely to be a challenge for him. Sir Alex Ferguson wont want to throw him into the fray too early in the precedings. He’ll be given time to adapt and adjust. The United boss will want to make certain that the former Crewe youngster has completely found his feet before throwing him in the deep end. He’s likely to be a Carling Cup player, who may well feature in some of the earlier rounds of the FA Cup. Beyond something remarkable, don’t expect too much more than substitute appearances in the Premier League. At his age, he’s got plenty of time to build towards regular football and now that he’s secured a move to a big club, that should be his aim.

With Owen and Berbatov looking like leaving the exit of the club this will hopefully help Powell get some game time. He will learn a lot from his new team mates and that will help him gain experience for the future. Let’s hope that it’s a good season, not just for Powell, but also for Manchester United!

Where do you see him playing? Do you think he can become a main striker for the club?
