Manchester United aren’t exactly short of firepower. Wayne Rooney, despite his poor showing at Euro 2012 is easily amongst the world’s top strikers. He’ll probably be even better next season. Danny Welbeck is one of England’s finest young talents and looks to be improving on a game-by-game basis. Javier Hernandez, is a clinical finisher and is an absolute nightmare for defenders to mark thanks to his movement. Federico Macheda is still an enigma but may well kick on this coming season.

Then there’s Dimitar Berbatov, a man tipped to move on this summer, but it hardly seems as though the offers have been rolling in throughout the transfer window.

Despite the competition upfront, most publications have continued to link United to strikers. Michael Owen has been released and Berbatov’s future is uncertain. The defense is surely the priority right now, but that doesn’t mean Sir Alex Ferguson won’t be concerned about his attack. Ex-Dortmund star Shinji Kagawa will add goals from the midfield, but will it be enough?

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are weighing up a bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, after the 23-year-old admitted he dreams of playing in the EPL. Speaking to Polish TV station TVP, he said:

This (the Premier League) is a league that I would like to play in, and I hope it happens sometime. Although I am happy at Dortmund I always like to aspire to greater heights.”

The player seems game for a move, but should United seek to provide him with the putlet?

The Polish international lit up the Bundesliga last season, leading Dortmund to a cup double and scoring 30 goals in all competitions. He’s really blossomed since leaving Poland and his regular goal scoring antics has seen him linked to plenty of suitors throughout Europe.

He’s used to playing as a part of a good technical footballing side. He links up well with Kagawa. He’s dominant in the air, but also pretty handy along the ground. His goal scoring record speaks for itself. And at 23-years-old, he’s only like to get better. The time seems right for Manchester United to snap him up and make their second Dortmund signing of the summer.

What’s your take? Would Robert Lewandowski be a good addition at Old Trafford? Or should Fergie steer clear?
