He’s off to a ‘top club’ but are Arsenal right to sell?

It makes sense that the world’s most confident footballer in the world has the most confident agent in all of football. Nicklas Bendtner, Arsenal’s big Dane forward is pretty much a sure bet to leave the club during the summer. At this stage it’s a question of ‘when’ and ‘where’. Arsenal fans will no doubt also be wondering how much they’ll get for him, but my big question: ‘why?’

Why are they looking to sell him? Isn’t he a good option to have in reserve? Didn’t he prove throughout the Euros that he’s still a threat?

He may be a bit bonkers. A little misguided. It’s clear that he has his agent whispering in his ear and that he’s got a somewhat inflated sense of worth. That doesn’t change the fact, however, that he’s a fairly good striker.

According to his agent, Tom Brookes (via Sky Sports) Bendtner is set to join a ‘top club’:

“Nicklas is a top striker, who just proved himself at the Euros. I’m certain that he is going to end up at a top club, but I’m not going to be drawn into speculation.”

What he means by a top club is anybody’s guess. Sky Sports also claim that Malaga and Galatasaray have made offers for the Arsenal striker. Both clubs would probably represent good moves for the lanky forward.

But before we get too carried away – let’s consider Arsenal’s situation. Yes they’ve brought in Lukas Podolski from FC Koln and Olivier Giroud from Montpellier. But beyond that they have precious little else going forward (not counting Robin Van Persie whose future is uncertain). Joel Campbell has gone on loan to Real Betis. They certainly can’t rely on Marouane Chamakh and Park Chu Young to provide goals.

Both players prove to be an absolute shambles last season (perhaps through to lack of game time, but more likely due to a complete lack of form) and may end up getting sold this summer. So I would be concerned if Arsenal let go of Bendtner.

If the right offer comes in, Wenger should sell. But there’s no point just selling Bendtner to get rid of him. He remains a viable option, a bit of a wild-card and a pretty entertaining individual.

What’s your take? Are Arsenal right to sell Bendtner or should they look to keep him?

  • A T HEDLEY says:

Just for a moment forget a good move for the player we have had a a full season of this egotist who is a legend in his own lunchtime.

The popular opinion is he has, like Joe Bugner to the heavyweight world, years ago, all the attributes and none of the hunger.

The result was a player who when trying to dribble looked like an adult playing a team of five year olds and when presented with a scoring opportunity spent so much time posing, to check his hairstyle that he invariably missed.

What about it being a good move for the club he is seeking to join?

  • Arsenal shud think twice b4 selling Bendtner bcos this dane understands premier league & he has been in d system for years & if RVP leave Arsenal, Bendtner will pick up his best form & show all what he has to d world bcos he is a 90 minutes player. He can play as front man or as supporting striker. Aresnal shud keep Bendtner until after RVP leave emirates stadium.
