When it comes to transfers, we’re so used to Arsene Wenger keeping ‘mum’, that it’s a bit of a shock to the system when he does perk up and deliver a genuine sound bite. It was a joy to hear him open up and tell the Press: (Source: Daily Mail)

“We bought Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski but we are not at the end of the transfers. We will still bring players in.”

These comments are a welcome change for fans who are so used to hearing Wenger tell them that the club is not looking to make any additions. Over the last few years Wenger has stood steadfast by his side, but now his resistance seems to be crumbling. Hurrah!

But what we all really wanted to hear is whether rumours concerning Arsenal’s interest in Spanish ace Santi Cazorla were true. At a pre-season tour Press conference Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta was asked what he thought of his compatriot. He responded:

I cannot talk about the actual situation but I can say that I know him as a player really well. He’s a top, top player. He has got unbelievable quality and talent and that is all I can say.”

Naturally the reporters followed up and asked Wenger, who told them: “I share the opinion of Mikel Arteta. Cazorla is a great player.” Considering Arsene Wenger’s normal no-comment philosophy, many Arsenal fans have treated this comment as a sure fire sign that he’s interested in the 27-year-old.

With Tottenham also interested, however, Arsenal will face competition for his signature. But who needs the Spaniard most?

I’d argue that he has the quality to improve both sides, but that he’d be best suited at Arsenal. Since Cesc Fabregas’ absence the Gunners have lacked creativity in the midfield. They need somebody with the craft and endeavor to provide beat their man and provide a killer pass. Cazorla can do this.

For Tottenham, however, much depends on whether they can keep hold of Luka Modric. The Croatian is their midfield creation centre and much of Tottenham’s best moves go through him. If he leaves, Spurs will certainly need to consider their options. They may well find, however, that Arsenal have already snapped up Cazorla.

As things currently stand, it just makes sense that Cazorla should end up at the Emirates.

What’s your take? Is he better suited to Arsenal or Tottenham?
