Reports have a refused to go away regarding Wigan’s bright young star Victor Moses. After an impressive campaign last year at the DW stadium Moses has been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool with Chelsea being the most heavily linked (Source: Daily Mail). The fee talked about is in the region of £10 million and I can’t help but the think the purchase would be not only costly but also unnecessary for the London club.
Chelsea have already been very busy this summer having beaten a host of clubs to the signature of Eden Hazard and have also signed Marko Marin from Werder Bremen, a signing that caught us all by surprise. This all comes after the signings of Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku bought last season in the aim of them being part of the first team this season. So it appears the Chelsea squad is rather full, too full up for a man costing £10 million and who is still relatively untested, anyway.
Moses has been at Wigan since early 2010 and struggled at first upon his introduction to premier league. In fact, Moses continued to struggle during the season after as it looked like the promising Nigerian would be unable to cut it at the highest level.

However, Moses soon dispelled those suggestions during last season when he enjoyed his most productive one in a Wigan shirt. Moses looked explosive, skillful, strong and quick and even suggested he had an eye for goal as time after time he providing Wigan with a dangerous outlet in which they could hit. One game in particular, the surprise victory at Arsenal, comes to mind as the game where Moses truly announced himself. He ripped the Arsenal back-line apart and maybe then was the time Victor Moses began to demand he was being noticed.
So what about the fee? The £10 million being quoted in several unreliable newspapers appears a tad extortionate for a man who has only impressed in spell, most notably the climax of last season. Moses is still young though and clearly has the potential to be a success. It’s just whether or not the youngster would be able to carry the burden of a top four club.
If the transfer does go through it will make for intriguing watching, if Moses succeeds he could arguably go on to be considered a great. The Nigerian could though fail, find himself on the bench permanently and be another example of an exciting talent wasted.
