There was a time where you could take any England player and make a case for them being the best player in the world in their position. Rio Ferdinand at one point was the best centre back beating out the likes of Fabio Cannavaro. The same went for Ashley Cole only being challenged by Roberto Carlos for the world best left back spot. David Beckham vs. Luis Figo was another debate that an English man would come out on top over.

However there are no English players that are better than anyone else now. Gerrard and Lampard are behind the likes of Xavi, Iniesta and Sneijder. Even Wayne Rooney can’t be classed in the same league as Messi, Ronaldo, Van Persie and at his best Torres.

But Joe Hart can.

Joe Hart has become the best goalkeeper in the world in less than 3 years. His dramatic rise to fame started when he spent a season on loan at Birmingham and help create a club record with a 12 game unbeaten run. Hart impressed during the spell and on his return to Eastlands he dislodged Experienced keeper Shay Given for the number one Jersey.

His performance at Birmingham garnered an England call up and he was the third choice keeper for England disastrous 2010 World Cup campaign. Many believed he should have started against the USA and Rob Green’s unfortunate mistake led to those calls for him to be England’s number one to gather some pace.

He was named number one after the world cup and hasn’t been dislodged since. England’s most consistent player for nearly two years now at club and international level, has now added a League and FA cup winners medal to his trophy cabinet.

Iker Casillas has been the best goalkeeper in the world for almost a decade. Playing for the one of the best teams in the world at club and international level Casillas has proved just how good he is. But it seemed that his crown was stolen last year by the performances of Manuel Neuer who kept Schalke in the champions league with a string of impressive displays. He signed for Bayern Munich last summer and has gone from strength to strength. Known as a penalty king he saved to penalties in a shoot out to knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League against the odds.

But Joe Hart has now overtaken the German as the best goalkeeper in the world. He plays with an enthusiasm and a smile on his face which is rarely seen now in the competitive world of English Football. He should be England’s Goalkeeper for the next ten years and for that reason I believe he should be made captain, All the great goalkeepers were captains of the countries, Dino Zoff, Oliver Kahn and Casillas and proved by their performances they are worthy of that honour. Joe hart has proved his worth already, it’s time to reward his performance’s and humility with the greatest honour that a player can receive while playing for his country.
