What REALLY matters this summer to Arsenal fans?

It’s a simple question, but there are so many ways of interpreting it, and any number of ways of answering it. Samsung have asked football fans what matters most to them. For many it will be England winning the Euros, for some it will be seeing their rivals trip up, for others, it will be seeing their club side go on to greater glory.

Either way, Samsung has put that question out there into the ether and offered a treasure trove full of prizes to those who provide creative answers. Sounds intriguing right? Well head here…

I’m an Arsenal fan. I few everything through red-tinted spectacles. I cannot compute football in non-Arsenal terms. I watch Euro 2012 games with my eyes trained firmly on those who play (or have played) for the Gunners. I have no interest (though that does not mean I have no appreciation) for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi simply because they do not play in Red and White.

I’m your typical, closeted, narrow-minded football fan. I like to think that I can have a bit of a debate with my mates, but when it comes down to it, I’m as partisan as they come. I’ve chosen my lot and beyond something drastic (like the entire team suddenly coming out in vigorous support of the BNP party, or Arsene signing Joey Barton) I’ll stick with them through thick and thin.

So now that I’ve outted myself, what matters to me?

Really, truly, deeply? Winning silverware. There, I said it. I want to see this Arsenal side prove that they’ve got more than just potential. I want to pick it up, rub it around and stuff it in the face’s of all the pundits that are pleased as punch to announce that the Gunners have gone seven years without  a trophy.

I want to see Arsenal showing ambition in the transfer market. I want to see them working hard in each and every game and not refusing to show up just because they’re playing West Brom. I want to see Alex Song play a little more like a Defensive midfielder. I want Robin Van Persie to stay. I want Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud to light up the Premier League.

I don’t want Jack Wilshere’s injury to derail his season once more. All these things matter to me because I view them as essential as a means towards an end. The end being: Titles, Cup glory, plaudits. I’ll always be a proud Arsenal fan, but it wouldn’t half be nice to see the Gunner’s really go for it next season.

So that’s my piece done. Why don’t you have your say?
