What can Spurs expect from Harry Redknapp’s successor?

|

Daniel Levy celebrates a decade at Tottneham. But has he been a force for good?It has been almost a month now since Harry Redknapp left Tottenham Hotspur and the North London club is still without a manager.

Daniel Levy seemed to lose patience with the man that turned the football club around and decided to part ways with Redknapp for a fresh face that will give Tottenham full focus.

Redknapp was seen to lose focus in Tottenham’s season once the England job came available and with his attention elsewhere he watched his side lose a ten point gap between themselves and their fierce rivals Arsenal and eventually finish in fourth place. Spurs were then pushed out of Champions League qualification when Chelsea stunned the world after their triumph in the final and automatically claimed the last qualifying place.

So who can we expect to see in the White Hart Lane dugout next season then?

Since Redknapp’s departure there has been a vast number of speculation around who his replacement will be.

Ex Chelsea manager André Villas-Boas has been a strong contender from the start. He is mainly known for his torrid time at Chelsea before getting sacked after only nine months.

However it is hard to ignore his success at Porto winning four trophies in his first year in management and a young manager with a desire to win, he seems to be the ideal man for Daniel Levy.

French National manager Laurent Blanc is the most recent to be name to be dragged into contention after Les Blues’ crashed out in the quarter finals to Spain.

Blanc took over a troubled France after their embarrassing display in the 2010 World Cup and made an instant impact going on a 23 unbeaten run and with his contract at France near the end, now that his Euro’s is over, and we could see the ex Manchester United defender make a return to the Premier League.

Both managers seem to be very similar and pretty much an opposite of the former boss, both are young and inexperienced. However it is still hard to ignore the success that both managers have achieved in their early careers. But both managers do seem to lack the man management that Harry Redknapp made his own. AVB didn’t appear to have any control at Chelsea whatsoever, gaining disrespect from the players in the process. And Blanc also has his problems with his man management; with the French team having yet another bust up there seems to be a real problem that Blanc couldn’t deal with.

Will they be a success at Spurs?

Any manager with the calibre of Blanc or AVB wouldn’t find it too much of a task to do well with the depth and class of the squad that Tottenham have. But the real question is would they break back in to the top four. Redknapp was a real man manager and had a good rapport with the team. AVB and Blanc have struggled with this kind of relationship on their previous jobs and could find it difficult to hang on to their best players.

But whoever is named as the new manager I am sure that the astute businessman Daniel Levy will make it his upmost importance that the club will keep on to their most highly valued players and carry on with his and every Spurs fans dreams of a push back to Champions League football.

An argument could be made that Levy is trying to break away from the atmosphere around Redknapp’s team to a much more businesslike, focused, outfit. Whether Redknapp was or was not distracted by talk of the vacant England job the fact of the matter is that Spurs seemed to lack the focus and style which seemed to come effortlessly to them between September and the Christmas period, where, at one point, they were touted as serious title contenders after several impressive displays saw them keeping up with the pace of the Manchester clubs. Maybe with all this in mind, Daniel Levy has decided it’s an appropriate time to overhaul the existing status quo within Tottenham Hotspur.

Only time will tell if the right call will be made.

Top 4 will not happen now for several seasons. The pressure will build on AVB and he’ll be out in 18 months. You can talk all you want about long term but the Spurs job comes with massive pressure and AVB will struggle to cope.

    • Essex spur says:

You right may as well throw in the towel now and get ready for relagation. The new manager will have no chance with a lack of support and belief as you’ve shown there. The Harry loving press is gonna give him enough shit without the fans turning their backs on him before he’s even started. He’s an idea, let’s give whoever it is our full backing till at least Xmas before we start judging hey!!!!

Completely agree no new manager will have a chance unless we give him our backing, if we aren’t doing well by January then get rid of him

  • Popsy says:

I think Levy has cut his nose off to spite his face by sacking Harry, and I hope it comes back to bite hi in the arse, we could have been challenging the No. 1 spot next season with a couple of new strikers to an already first-class team.

  • Ray says:

Lilywhite London you’re a cock. I suppose you read tea leaves for a living and know exactly what’s going to happen do you.
If AVB is installed as our new manager and Spurs become even more successful under him we wont hear from you again then right?

  • Rory spur says:

Avb is the only man for the job, come on lads let’s get behind or manager, don’t judge the book by its cover, never got a chance at Chelsea, 12 months ago he was the dogs bollox..
