Is this talented youngster the perfect fourth choice striker for Arsenal?

All the transfer activity happening in and around the Emirates must surely have Arsenal fans beginning to let positivity creep back into outlooks. Whilst the last couple of seasons have been pretty miserable, the fact that Wenger is looking to make his signings early on in the transfer window is a good sign. It’ll give the likes of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud (should that transfer go through) an opportunity to gel with their new team mates and help them adjust quickly to the rigours of the Premier League.

These signings make it fairly likely that the likes of Marouane Chamakh, Nicklas Bendtner and draft-dodger Park Chu-Young will be sent packing. This unholy trinity just don’t seem to have what it takes to improve this Arsenal side. One player Arsene certainly won’t want to sell is Dutchman Robin Van Persie.

If he can keep him at the Emirates, an attacking trio of RVP, Giroud and Podolski could cause serious problems to back-fours across the country. But I’d argue that Arsenal need one more striker to provide an option coming off the bench and account for injuries and form.

What about the youngster that the Gunners signed last season, Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell? At just 19-years-old, the starlet spent last season on loan with Ligue 1 side Lorient as the club attempted to handle issues concerning his work permit. It now seems that he’s ready to come to England and make his mark. Speaking to the Arsenal Player, he said:

“I think I can bring a lot of things to the Arsenal attack – I can contribute goals and assists,” he said.

“I want people to see what I can do. I always think big, so I want to go to Arsenal and play as many games as possible.

“I have to give everything I’ve got, train hard and have faith in my abilities, to never doubt them and keep moving forward.”

He’s clearly a confident young lad and if his goals last week for his national side in the World Cup qualifiers are anything to go by, he has the talent to back it up.

He offers the club an entirely different option from the likes of Lukas Podolski, RVP and yes, Giroud (hope I’m not getting ahead of myself with that one). I’ve seen him described as ‘explosive’ and that makes sense. He’s got a great turn of pace, loves to bomb forward and knows where the back of the net is.

At 19-years-old, he’s only going to get better. As a third or fourth choice striker, I don’t think Arsenal can do much better.

if he just gonna warm the bench for 1 season, then loaning him out is better for both party.

I agree that Joel Campbell looks a very good prospect. Maybe some valuable experience will be gained from playing in the domestic cup competitions next season.

  • The BearMan says:

What I long to see is players willing to work hard for their places, rather than believing its theirs by right.

If you are good enough, age is not an issue.

I say give the lad, plus Ryo a chance. If possible even Wellington Silva.

With the inclusions and supposedly targets in the likes of Podolski, Girourd and not forgetting Joel Campbell, who should be given the opportunity in the 1st XI next season, with of cause the renewal of RVP’s contract,….. , Squillaci, Djouru, Chamakh, Arshavin, Vela, Bendtner, Park and even possibly Gervinho must be sold in this summers windonw of opportunity.
Every attempt in getting an additional defensive midfielder / defender ARSENAL will be the club to contend with next seasdon!

Closest thing to Henry at his young age currently in world football.

  • Dylan says:

If Wellington Silva and Campbell get their permits granted then I can see early Carling(whatever its called now) cup games and then loans to PL teams to build up their exp. But I cant see 1st team if we do get Giroud. As AW will class Gervinho as 4th choice striker
