Marvin Martin has scarcely been out of the rumour mill for the last couple of seasons. The 24-year-old French International has been trailed by the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool and speculation regarding his future has begun to increase. The Sochaux midfielder has seemingly outgrown his surrounding and is ready to make his move. The Ligue 1 side finished in 14th place this season, despite Martin’s best efforts and it seems that the Frenchman has bigger ambitions. He’s quoted in the Metro as saying:
‘I’m ready to go and play overseas, but I have not made a decision about my future. I know there has been contact but I’m 100 per cent focused on France and the Euros.’
The same paper claims that Arsenal have been scouting him ‘intensively’ for the last 18 months and may be willing to make a bid for the £8m rated midfielder. They also claim that Martin is ‘demanding a move’, but I don’t see how his quotes constitute this. If there’s any truth to these claims, you can bet that Wenger will act quickly. Martin is a major part of Laurent Blanc’s Euro 2012 set-up and the Arsenal boss will be keen to wrap up any deal before good performances at the tournament boost his price tag.
Whilst Wenger’s always keen to save a penny, he’s also a big fan of young French talent. He knows Ligue 1 like the back of his hand and it doesn’t surprise me that he’s been scouting Martin.
Whilst Arsenal already have a fairly compact midfield, I still think they need another creative midfielder. They missed Cesc Fabregas’ ability to split a defense and create attacks on many occasions last season and need to bring in a player with a similar level of quality.
Whilst he can’t match Cesc, he’s got plenty of creative flair. He’s supremely confident on the ball, can spray it around effortlessly and has excellent vision. Like Cesc he’s also got a small frame, but because he’s accustomed to passing the ball quickly and effectively this is rarely ever a problem. Indeed, he strikes me as the quintessential Arsenal midfielder.
If Arsenal did sign another midfielder it may raise questions over the future of the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Abou Diaby. But if Martin – a fully fledged French International is available for just £8m surely he should be snapped up?

I agree with you mate I really want mvila giroud but would like martin to join most, that would be 4 top transfers (inc poldi) in my books couldn’t complain then

Arsenal need to sign the following players for depth and quality, Mvilla,Giroud,Affelly/Marvin,Yanga Mbiwa and with podolski we are good to go.
If we don’t sign him then this club is showing how stupid it is. At the price he is a really good player and plays in a position we need. We CAN afford him. How are we going to keep up with the other teams if we decide to self destruct. We must buy him to compete.

I would love to see marvin wearing the number 23 shirt and playing @ AFC but we also need affelay and M’villa don’t think we really need another CB if we keep all our present CB. Sell off B52, AA, Denilson, vela, diaby, and send ramsey out on loan. Then wrap up Giround deal ASAP. Then we competitive enough.

He just agreed to join Lille. I wonder if Wenger is ever gonna make us happy, my hatred 4 him keeps growing everyday. Every season we keep saying ‘by next season we will be better’ every other teams are srengthening except Arsenal, so annoying.
