Will those who turned against Rangers adopt the same attitude against Celtic after this revelation?

Does the press release regarding the use of the infamous EBT scheme that Celtic issued on the same day as the BBC documentary by Mark Daly have a certain spin to it? The phrase was made famous in 2002, when spin doctor Jo Moore faced widespread calls for her to quit for sending an e-mail as New York’s twin towers burned, suggesting that September 11 was a good day to “bury” bad news.

It seems that those in power at Celtic Park may have learned a thing or two from Jo Moore. Perhaps Celtic is hoping that the fire storm that will surely erupt after the BBC programme is shown will hide the hypocrisy that now runs through the Scottish game.

Celtic confirmed that it established one EBT scheme in April 2005, which BBC Scotland is led to believe was for the benefit of the Brazilian midfielder Juninho. The scheme was worth £765,000 but the club did not declare the trust payment to the Scottish Football Association or the Scottish Premier League and did not pay tax on it. The question has to be asked, why did Celtic not declare the use of the EBT scheme and can we take Celtic at their word? After all, we all remember the famous tour of Japan in 2008.

Only a full investigation of the club by the proper authorities can restore confidence to the Scottish game. Celtic must come clean by providing a full disclosure about why the EBT was set up, what negotiations took place with HMRC, how much had to be paid to HMRC, why it was not disclosed to the SFA, and what benefit it provided to CFC.

After all the fake outrage and moral indignation, here we have a club that not only used the EBT scheme but failed to pay tax on it, only paying it three years later, and failing to declare it to the proper authorities for seven years. You couldn’t make it up. Sporting integrity indeed!

The terms sporting integrity and financial doping have always had a hollow ring to them, but it is an empty statement now that Celtic have admitted using the EBT scheme and withholding tax. Will those who have pursued Rangers with an almost frenzied appetite for the truth now turn their attentions to Celtic Football Club and put the club on the stand? I won’t hold my breath.

Why does this site keep allowing hurting bares to post spurious lies on here?

Celtic did pay tax on it you moron and declared it to the SPL when they were advised that the scheme did not comply with the rules.

For the record, we went to the ex-Governor of the Bank of England for our advice. NOT a porn star…

Don’t discourage him man. This stuff is comedy gold.

Auch Cyberted son I agree they Timmy are a bunch of hypocrites You tell you’re uncle Aloysius all about it.

      • Tommy says:

My goodness it is all getting messy and openly Sectarian now, eh? Timmy AND Aloysius in two sentences? It’s a short step to facism, be careful

    • Jimmy says:

Paul, I could not have expressed my comments any better mate, straight forward succinct and to the obvious point… Rangers tactics thru the years have always been to drag celtic into things when they were in the firing line, songs of hate, fighting police, tearing cities apart… Hunfortunately they have been overwhelmed on this occasion with all the truths suddenly being proven day in day out. The media are no longer their buddies and no-one wants associations with the toxic club other than to glean it’s assets. They are clutching at the last straws and it is unbelievable to think that some think they can shed their debt and rule breaking ways and rise unscathed in the top league. When all is lost, players, grounds, trophies, license to play, watch Paul Murray buy a wee diddie team and brand it new Rangers, that is their fate.

  • Agent Whyte/White says:

The outrage isn’t fake and the moral indignation over Rangers corrupot activites over a decade is all too real.

This is typical ‘whataboutery’ of the deny end deflect attitude from those at the big hoose. You will find this is a non-story and the ‘facts’ quoted, minimal as they are, are all wrong.

    Tick tock tick tock…..

  • MaxX says:

We know ranjurz fc(IA) are the biggest cheating (every team they’ve played in 20yrs) thieving (hospitals, schools, charities, the armed forces, the ambulance and fire services…etc..etc) lying scumbag club in world football, but the bigger question must be, are ranjurz supporters the thickest peepel on planet earth???

  • john says:

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha by jasaus yer scraping the barrell ,never laughed as much

  • paranoidandroid says:

I think Cyberted’s just having a laugh and indulging in a bit of self-deprecating humour. Either that or he thinks one honest EBT is as bad as 100s of dishonest ones.

  • john says:

CyberTed ? is that an anagram of FUD- get your facts right. Clown ! Bye Bye Rangers

  • Oni says:

They have came clean as to why it was setup: To pay off the remainder of his contract. The EBT was setup after he left the club so there was no requirement to declare to the footballing authorities.

There was no side contract and once HMRC changed the rules Celtic paid the amount of tax required.

Compared to Rangers where EBTs have been used to pay players currently at the club (unlike Celtic), have subsequently not paid this tax when asked for it (unlike Celtic), had a contractual right through a side letter for these amounts (unlike Celtic) which has also not been declared to the SFA/SPL (unlike Celtic).

    I’m afraid this is a complete non-story.

  • johnny bhoy says:

Unbelievable crap, try and use google for some research son. I’m sure your school will be cool with it !

  • KevinBarry says:

    The TAX was paid!!!

    Tik tok!

  • joratim says:

Rubbish of the highest degree, (could be the author is in line for a higher degree in the funny handshake division).

The argument is pointless, it has already been proven that Celtic done everything in a proper and correct manner. Paid HMRC the full amount.

We, when an error in judgement happens, own up and pay up.

We are those who are financing her most gracious majesty’s jubilee, we have paid up front.

Where is the loyality from the South West? nowhere:

They still think they are above the law, buy what we want, don’t bother paying up, we are the “peepil”, we cannot be touched.

The florists and paper shops can forget their bills, we are Rangers, we do not have to pay, we are Rangers, we are the establishment team, supported by the Shocking Scottish Media, we are Rangers, we are bigger than God Himself.

    Now enter FIFA.

    “The times they are changing”

  • Juninho says:

Being the player concerned, I can confirm I was paid on an illegal EBT scheme, before, during and after my time at Celtic.

Despite my desperate pleas for them to run a clean and honest business like their beloved rivals I was ignored and subsequently dropped.

I just thank the lord that these despicable characters and Celtic, the one and only blight on the map of Scottish football, will be brought to justice!

    Thank you, cyberted!

    • J says:

Hahahahahahahaha!!!……now that was hilarious!!! Well done!!! Tick tock, tick tock!!! Won’t be long Huns! Hope ya’ll enjoy the fall!!!

  • mick says:

We all know as the world does that the Ibrokes club will always be known as TAINTED RANGERS FC. All this nonsense will not be able to cover up Gers ripped off business’s & clubs from here & abroad.
Will 1000’s of gers go for another walk to hampden to complain?

  • frisnit says:

Haha, nice try! Celtic have settled that bill. If/when Rangers have settled their bill, then that will become history too.

A one-off that was corrected clearly isn’t quite the same as what Rangers have been doing!

  • Jeronhimo says:

Just use the RFF money to get Bartlets to plant potatoes and make money that way as that is using all your funds on the Pitch to full capacity. Harvest the Potatoes and then sell them to Craig Whyte to provide chips from the Catering Company to hand out to all the saddo’s gathering behind a fenced off area watching “The big hoose go POP” with a Hand Cut Chip n Sauce…..mmmmm

  • The Scottish Revolution says:

I suppose when you spend so much time with your head in the sand when you occasionally come up for air your bound to spout sh!te.

    Liquidate, Relegate, Reallocate.

  • UlsanTim says:

Typical Hun denial and deflection; yeah we used EBT’s for over 10 years, made payments for unknown reasons to non Rangers staff like Grahame Souness, conned the taxpayer out of millions, but no we can’t take a look at ourselves or associate ourselves with any blame, I know, let’s blame Timmy! This is possibly the most desperate case of scraping the bottom of the barrel I have ever witnessed. It’s frightening that this clown allowed to have his thoughts aired in any public domain.

  • Tully says:

    Are you for real?

Can any diddy post blogs on this site as you have the journalistic ability of a turd.

Why don’t you do some research before opening your bowels onto your keyboard?

  • Mark Murphy says:

The answer to your question is “yes.” It is an insult to many thousands of football supporters, appalled at the wave of serious allegations against Rangers, to suggest that their disgust is comparable to the anti-Rangers attitudes from the bigoted wing of Celtic’s support. It does not seem to occur to you that if the serious documentation-backed allegations are true to any significant degree, Rangers will be shown up as systematic cheats for a decade. It is vital that the truth is exposed, whatever it may be and wherever it may come from (Rangers’ 111 sub-trusts or however many Celtic may have used). An “almost frenzied appetite for the truth”? What is wrong with that? In fact, it’s about time more Rangers fans had that appetite for the truth about their club.
