Is this French star’s arrest a sign that Arsenal should steer clear?

We heard last week that Arsenal target Yann M’Vila had been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a 17-year-old boy. The 21-year-old French International had been hotly tipped for a move to the Emirates this summer, but any such move is now in the balance.

Quotes from M’Vila’s lawyer soon appeared in L’Equipe: “Yann has acknowledged that it was an inappropriate response but provoked by the betrayal of the trust he gave to this young man. As it stands, no decision has been taken yet by the Rennes prosecutor on this case but the file will be forwarded to him within eight to 10 days.”

This news arrived at about the same time that it was announced that Arsenal’s transfer talks with Yann M’Vila’s club Rennes were at an ‘advanced’ stage. Will this affect the outcome of any such talks? Should it?

It’s also worth pointing out that former Rennes’ manager Guy Lacombe once labelled M’Vila a ‘loose cannon’ and questioned his dedication. Is this the kind of player that Arsenal should be chasing?

He strikes me as a player who needs a good manager to oversee his development. He’s earned a lot of plaudits during his time at Rennes and has made the step up to the French National side (18 caps) at just 21-years-old. As a defensive midfielder he can retain the ball well, but he’s also known for displaying some creativity and craft in the way he sprays the ball about. In the season before last he led Ligue 1 in passes attempted (2341) and passes completed (1989). He’s also robust and strong in the tackle. Now that’s some pretty good pedigree.

The fact that he’s constantly compared to Patrick Viera makes it seem as though M’Vila is destined for a move to the Emirates.

Yes, the Gunners already have Alex Song deployed in his position but a little competition may do the Cameroonian some good. He’s a fine player, but I’m not sure how well suited he is for the defensive midfielder role. He’s got a swashbuckling attitude and is keen to get forward at any opportunity. Whilst this adds some potency to Arsenal’s attack, it also leaves holes at the back. M’Vila’s arrival would add another dimension to the Gunner’s midfield and help stop them leaking goals.

Yes, he seems to be another troubled youngster. In this case, however, he looks to be somebody talented enough to persevere in. Surely Arsene Wenger is the right man to mould his talent?

Arsenal’s lifeline on the part of Newcastle & Spurs puts The Gunners in pole position for 3rd placing! IT’S IN THEIR HANDS! The Auto-Qualification of CL in the net season!

Now onto Yann M’Villa …. he needs a ‘second chance’ too! AW and Arsenal should give him and take him on board …. a player with qualities and skill but who just needs ‘guidance’ to be a better person on and off the pitch!

At the age of 21 and with 18 caps for France one could consider buying at the right transfer fee. When M’Vit joins Arsenal he will be meeting youngster of his age whom most of them have been groomed by Mr.Wenger and his capable coaches running the reserves and junior teams. So why not give the lad a chance perhaps he needs better companions to settle down.

Please !!!!!What is your point ?? To be a present day Arsenal player you need to be a sterile, unimaginative mass produced un-thinking football macine !!!!
Part of the problem with the current squad of players is said to be there is NOT enough characters in the changing room.
Merson, Wright, Adams, Parlour all had there moments !! All, if your logic was to be observed, would have been passed over by Arsenal.
The kid can play, he will add quality to the squad. He will be an asest. Are you unsure Wenger is a strong enough ( hands on ) man manager to deal with him ? Do you think he will disrupt the dressing room ?
When it comes down to it, lets hope he wants us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it would’nt bug me if he spanked Mr. president’s daughter. We need him and NOW

  • The BearMan says:

I totally agree the lad deserve a chance. He should not be given a double sentence – one in France n here in the Uk!

But Arsenal would be shooting themselves in the foot because of double standards.

  • Tomkay says:

We really need m’villa either temperament or not
