Could Manchester City’s main man REALLY be on his way out?

In a week which has seen Manchester City clinch their first title in 44 years Yaya Toure has strangely been getting much of the spotlight.  Not for his consistency, or his lung-busting desire, not even his importance for the blues but instead strange comments that have been made by him and then his agent.

At the beginning of the week Toure had this to say about the prospect of creating a legacy upon Eastlands, “We have been unbelievable,” he said. “I think next year will be more and I hope City will become a great club in the world.  I will think about the new season and I hope it will be more exciting than the last one.  These comments were made in the Guardian, a paper rare to make up nonsense.  Toure’s words suggested he was keen to be apart of the lavish spending due to take place this summer and continue to play his vital role in the side.

However, Toure’s agent, who was speaking to a Catalonia radio station, has this to say about his prized Jewell, “Toure has done all he can do at City and needs new motivations. He would like a new challenge. He would not cost much”.  The mischievous comments continued, “He could sign for many big clubs, like Chelsea or Bayern Munich. We would like to see Barcelona join the race”.  What a thing to say about a man who still has three years left on his lucrative contract having not so long ago been cast off from Barcelona.

The comments from Toure’s agent may well be in an attempt to secure a new bumper contract for Toure because the possibility of him leaving appears slim.  Where exactly could the Ivorian go?  His agent suggested Barcelona but I find it hard to believe they would be willing to take the midfielder back especially now with Mascherano in their ranks.  Chelsea are also being mooted but why would he want to exchange Champions League football and a chance of winning the Championship for many years to come for a team with no European football and out of contention domestically?

I wouldn’t be racing to the bookies to predict a Toure departure if I were you.  The comments should be taken with a pinch of salt after Sundays dramatic events.  The agent could well be dangling for a new deal for Toure which if worse comes to worse would be given by City.
