Many people of the generation before me will probably still remember Hoddle’s comments on disabled peoples past lives that forced him to resign however after this event it’s hard to remember a time when England have been as tactically good as they were 1998 world cup.
Although England lined up in a 3-5-2(which was common of the era) they played very good football at points with Shearer and Owen’s fluid movement being key as well as an intense pressing game.
Even though he has been out of the game for a while it shouldn’t really be a problem since he has watched a lot of premier league football during his time out because of his role at Sky and although some people would have you believe otherwise, in scouting terms it’s not that different from watching the game while at the stadium.
His analysis of matches is normally head and shoulders above his peers in the studio and still has the passion to get back into the game.
Stuart Pearce on the other hand has shown himself to be tactically weak with the under 21’s last summer. England were very disjointed and Pearce made some odd decisions, such as putting a full back, Michael Mancienne in front of the back four where his poor passing was exposed the most and England may as well as been a man down against a very strong Spain side who they were lucky to draw against.
It may be disconcerting to some England fans that Pearce is already behaving as manager and looks likely to take over at the Euro’s as he seems to be at most grounds in the country each weekend as if he is going to pick the squad.

His comments on disabled people were unacceptable and no matter what he has done since or may do, he blew it with such disrespectful and rotten words, FA need to stick to principles.
What about Pearce’ racist comments to Ince? I believe he still hasn’t apologised.
What Pearce said was totally unacceptable but came in the heat of the moment during a game, and I don’t believe this makes him a racist. However, for Hoddle to claim that disabled people are in such a position for ‘bad karma’ in a previous life and through fault of their own was a cold assessment of his warped and selfish view on life – he does not deserve a chance.
