RVP to Juventus? I doubt it!

Arsenal’s talismanic striker Robin Van Persie has been in the news a fair amount recently. Not only did he pick up the PFA Footballer of the Year award, he also scooped up the Football Writer’s Association Footballer of the Year award – scoring 38 goals in 50 games will do that for you.

There have been times this season where the magnificent Dutchman has carried this Arsenal side (take the 2-1 victory at Anfield) and even when everybody else looks uninspired, he’s always got the ability to make things happen.

At 29-years-old it’s been his first season in a long time without injury and boy has he risen to the occasion. As a result many of European football’s big guns will be chasing him this summer looking to offer him the final big contract of his career.

But the truth is: RVP is absolutely invaluable to Arsenal. The Gunners will be desperate to keep hold of their main man in the summer, but his unwillingness (thus far) to put pen to paper and sign new terms at the Emirates has fans a little worried.

As such, it’s a little disconcerting to hear that Robin’s agent has held talks about a summer move to Juventus. The Italian giants are determined to sign the Dutch striker and are believed to be willing to pay in excess of £25m.

In this particular case, I don’t feel that the Gunners should be too worried. It’s not unsurprising that RVP’s agent is surveying the marketplace in relation to his client’s future. It may well be that he’s ready to move on in the summer, or he may just be looking to grant himself a little more negotiating power.

Besides: why would he want to go to Juventus? Are they any more likely to win the Champions League than Arsenal? They may well be leading Serie A, but they are certainly not the Juventus of old.

As things currently stand there’s all the usual guff about waiting until the season ends to enter negotiations, so there’s no use entering panic stations just yet.

Instead remember this: RVP is settled in London, has his kid in a London school and is currently captain of the club he loves. Suffice to say, there’s a good chance that he’ll stay. Perhaps that’s worth bearing in mind over the next few weeks whilst you read over the hundreds of transfer rumours linking him with a move away.

Why would he want to go to Juventus? Becasue they have a much bigger chance of winning trophys. You may well be refering to a side that has surpassed Arsenal’s invincibles team by going undefeated in EVERY tournament if they manage to not loose in the remaining 5 league and cup games. Also Juve are a buying club and not a selling club like Arsenal, Only Vermalen and RVP would get into Juventus starting lineup too.

Juventus are a bigger club than Arsenal, and I’d back them to win a match against Arsenal. They aren’t in Europe this season, but will be a team to watching next season with Conte in charge bringing the old spirit back. It may not be the old Juventus just yet, but this isn’t the old Arsenal either, and Juve have a hell of a lot more ambition than Arsenal.
