Will Arsenal be celebrating St. Totteringham’s Day once more?

|

Firstly, for those of you who do not know what St. Totteringham’s Day is, it is a celebration of Arsenal’s success in finishing above Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The day on which it is celebrated falls on the day on which it becomes mathematically impossible for Spurs to finish above or level with their North London rivals and ever since Arsene Wenger took the reins of The Gunners, St. Totteringham’s Day has been an annual occasion, in which Tottenham are reminded exactly who the dominant side is between the fierce London rivals.

The last time Arsenal finished below the Lilywhites was in 1994/95 and was so long ago that the Premier League was still a 22-team division. Since then, it has been the red and white of Arsenal that has reigned supreme – season after season. However, not so long ago this campaign, a repeat of the 94/95 season looked on the cards. That year, Arsenal finished 12th, 11 points behind Spurs in 7th and whilst similar positions are certainly most unlikely to be adopted this season, the gulf looked more likely to be established.

January was a truly miserable month for Arsenal. Despite Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain introducing himself, as expected, in “The Year of the Ox,” and Thierry Henry enjoying a romantic return to The Emirates, Arsenal’s Premier League form dipped devastatingly and three losses on the bounce to Fulham, Swansea and Manchester United saw Tottenham take advantage and extend their lead on their North London rivals to ten points in a more successful January. So bad was Arsenal’s start to 2012, 14th place Everton were as close to Arsenal as their rivals were in 3rd.

Yet, since then many cans of worms have simultaneously been opened and suddenly Arsenal have found themselves wriggling up the table, whilst Tottenham have been the bait of resurgent teams and top four rivals. Firstly, Tottenham’s title hopes, however faint they were to begin with, faded away with a 3-2 loss to league leaders Manchester City and then, shortly after, Fabio Capello resigned from the England managerial post and the already favoured replacement for the Italian, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, became the even more favoured replacement and even more readily needed. The pressure was cranked up and seemingly Tottenham couldn’t handle it.

This has been renamed Arsenaltopupday it starts with a devastaing defeat 4-0 then backed up by a cup defeat. This shocks the team into a high tempo causing a fast fast new way of playing even rubbish players start playing like Rosicky Benanyoun. Then late late goals come one after the other and weight loss ill nastie looking players full of this Tut short for Top Up Tempo so popular in desperate teams. Since Doctor Wenger has been Arsenals Managers they have won things with cocaine addicts Agams and Merson and now we are watching a thin hyper active team with players i no came from teams who used energy drugs. I wont name them but one starred against Spurs so brag but very soon illness will strike unless Doctor Wenger rest some of his players burn out will follow and Tottenham will finish 3rd

I’m 49 years old and can proudly say Tottenham Shitespurs have never been League champions in my lifetime.

I have more respect for the Pikey West Londoners, QPR, than the planks up the Seven Sisters Road.

Biggest mugs in London, and for ever in our shadows.
