Why Wolves will go down:

|

The worrying point for Wolves is knowing when they take to the field most weekends that they are going to have to outscore their opponent.

Wolves managed a clean sheet against Fulham with a 2-0 win at home and a goal-less draw at Villa back in August. Since then Wolves have conceded 55 goals in 24 games. Having only won 5 times this season, to stay in the division Wolves must make it hard for teams to break them down.

Over the summer, Wolves signed Roger Johnson who had two impressive seasons with rivals Birmingham City. This was a ploy to shake up Wolves’ leaky defence but after a shocking season for the Black Country outfit he can barely make the first team.

Sebastien Bassong is recovering from an injury he recently picked up and he is the only centre half that provides a glimmer of hope for the most optimistic Wolves fan.

It’s hard to say who is poorer out of Richard Stearman and Christophe Berra but together they are painful to watch. Every week is a different mistake or lapse in concentration which costs the club dearly. How Stearman thought a year ago he would target the England team horrifies me. Not forgetting that Berra is an international regular for Scotland really shocks me.

Although Johnson has been poor I feel he is better than Stearman and Berra who produced a horror show at Craven Cottage at the weekend. For me, Johnson should play alongside Bassong and this may not get clean sheets but it will be a tougher test for strikers than the other partnership at the back. Having shipped 12 goals in the last three games Terry Connor has to make a change to the backline if Wolves are to get a result at Molineux next weekend.

Players like Jamie O’Hara, Steven Fletcher and Matthew Jarvis must get so frustrated knowing that if they don’t score at some point in the game it will probably result in a heavy defeat whoever the opponent.

This month is huge for the Wolves with Blackburn and Bolton at home coming up over the March period along with tough away trips to United and Norwich.

We are not away to united we are at home, the only away match left this month is norwich other three are at home.
Agree with your assessment regarding the defense, it has been s*&^e for the past twenty odd years (even with lescott)why we don’t get Batth back I don’t know, I would play Craddock and Bassong at the back – johnson should be sold – if we can get a buyer.

Misread the fixture list, hopefully set up for another great day against Utd at Molineux.
Yes this is true, also with Henry out for 4 weeks now they are thinking of handing a debut for David Davis which is worrying really especially with adlene guedioura on loan at forest.

  • Alex Clarke says:

Also what are your thoughts on Hammill being loaned to Boro, can’t see the logic? What i’ve seen of him has been positive he looks to take players on and his delivery into the box is as good as anyone at the club. Kightly has this pace but is relluctant to take on players it seems.

Totally agree that Berra and Stearman are our biggest problem. Great news that David Davis is in squad…PLAY HIM! Guedioura is also a liability. Hammill is a good impact player.

    • Alex Clarke says:

Yep, berra and stearman are both nightmares. Seen he’s in the squad can’t see him playing mind, done okay at Chesterfield can’t be ready for the step up. Adlene is too inconsistent but would rather him than Davis.

  • Im not going to lie i saw the title for this article and was angry until every point you made is spot on. My grandad could score with Berra and Stearman in defence and he passed away 12 years ago!!

Stearman and Berra are championship at best… get bassong and Roger the drunk in!
