Why Europe’s ‘other Suarez’ could pump life back into lacklustre Liverpool:

According to the Daily Mail Liverpool are ‘plotting’ a move to sign Anderlecht forward Matias Suarez. The highly rated Argentine marksman has no shortage of suitors in the Premier League, Arsenal are thought to be monitoring his situation along with Manchester United and Manchester City, so should Liverpool’s interest be genuine they are likely to face staunch competition for his signature. Just look at the quotes from Anderlecht boss Herman van Holsbeeck:

There are 15 top clubs prepared to pay the money we want for Suarez and the fee could be higher than the money we received from Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku last year. Matias could have gone to Russia in the winter and also Juventus, but his wife Magali did not want to go.”

Lukaku joined Chelsea last year in a deal worth up to £18m (and has hardly featured, but that’s another story) so Suarez would likely be worth in the region of £20m. Is this a price that Liverpool should be willing to pay?

Just how good is Matias Suarez anyway and what can he offer this Liverpool side? Van Holsbeeck has been keen to talk up 23-year-old: Do I think Suarez is worth more than Lukaku? Well, technically he is a better player.”

Of course, he may just be attempting to raise Suarez’s price-tag, but I can’t help but feel that there is substance to his claims. In fact he’s a little similar to Liverpool’s own Luis Suarez. He’s not a centre-forward in the Darren Bent mould and he’s more inclined to drop deep and try and get on the ball as much as possible. He’s good on the ball, technically gifted and can provide teams with moments of magic.

I think he’d probably be best suited playing for Liverpool as a wing-forward, getting past people and cutting inside or firing a cross into the box. He’d certainly be a big step-up from the likes of Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson.

So whilst I’d consent to a quality purchase like Matias Suarez, he can’t be the only forward signing that Liverpool make this summer. They still desperately need a natural goal-scorer and this really isn’t Suarez’s role. Whilst having both Suarez’s would increase Liverpool’s threat exponentially they still need somebody who’s actually going to put the ball in the back of the net.

Who this could be remains up for discussion.

They say the same thing about every striker linked with the ‘pool. Face it, they’re old news and there accomplishments are meaningless because they are a naff team and KING-KENNY….. IS A JOKE. Once he was an immortal legend to the kop, now he’s a running joke.
If they’d have kept Hodgson they might have had a chance, but they didn’t and we all know the rest of the story.
