Tomas Rosicky’s late-career renaissance is arguably one of the strangest parts of an extremely strange Arsenal season. It was only a month or so ago that fans were more or less consigned to the fact that he had no career left with the club. Constant injuries and a frail physique led to a lack of game-time and a persistent lack of form. I don’t think Arsenal fans ever really got a glimpse of the real Rosicky until this season. He finally seems to have shaken off the injuries, got his mind right and taken the step up.

Most impressively, it doesn’t look like his return to form is a one-off type deal. He has been putting in great performances all month, starting with Arsenal’s 5-2 demolition job of Spurs, followed by a decent turns against AC Milan and Liverpool before putting in arguably the best performance of the bunch against Newcastle on Monday evening.

All of a sudden his little flicks and tricks are coming off and he now has the confidence to bomb forward and try and get on the score-sheet. Finally Rosicky is a player who is worthy of the moniker ‘Little Mozart’.

Whether he was worth the wait or not is an entirely different matter but Arsenal fans will be pleased that they have a rejuvenated Rosicky for the run-in to help them in the fight for a third place finish. It seems rather trite to note that Rosicky entirely merited his new contract, but he did and hopefully he’ll be able to keep up his form for the rest of the year and beyond.

It’s pleasing to see that he signed the new contract for all the right reasons too. Speaking to isport.blesk.cz (as reported by Arseblog News) Rosicky admitted to entertaining offers from the money-rich clubs in Russia and China before putting pen to paper for Arsenal’s contract extension:

“Arsenal let me get to the point where I had just half a year on my contract and could talk to anyone I wanted. It started to get interesting because I had very lucrative offers. This turned my head a little, but I have to say that Arsenal were my priority.

In both cases [Russia and China] it was financially huge numbers, so that somehow you had to entertain it, it’s not easy. Some days I thought about it, but money is not everything, I’m glad I’ll be able to continue at Arsenal.

It’s fantastic to hear that he stayed at Arsenal for the right reasons. He had offers from other clubs but wanted to stay with the Gunners and prove himself – something he’s finally started to do. You can tell from his passionate celebrations just how important football is to him and claims that he was only playing well to win a new contract must have been put to bed by his performance against Newcastle.

I think it’s fair to say that Rosicky is now motivated by a love of his club and a desire for success and that can only stand Arsenal in good stead.

Yes i totaly agree with this article. He has hit dazzling form this last month or so and im pleased he resited the urge to leave for the money side of football. But i’m sure when Wilshere gets back to full fitness and maybe a summer signing of the likes of M’vila or Gotze Rosicky will just loose a place in that starting 11 and then we may not be able to see this fine form again?!

well if we signed other players the challenge will be bigger and this is one of the good things . rosicky is 31 but we do need such a talent with experience because they can help our youth to develop better .

  • Tim says:

Nah, he was good where he came from. He was good(like most of them) when he arrived. Then, just like most of them he became bad.
But an interesting observation is this. Rosicky and Walcot got better ONLY after Petit blutantly echoed people mind by saying their time is up at Arsenal. Maybe they needed just that.

If we sign new young miidfeders dey need to learn from Rosisky U don’t buy experience in d market, at 31 it’s not a joke.

‘Finally Rosicky is a player who is worthy of the moniker ‘Little Mozart’.’ – *again*!

Sparta Praha knew how to play him best.
Borussia Dortmund knew how to play him best.
Arséne doesn’t know or doesn’t want to play him best.

The fact of the matter is that he is an outstanding ACM and always has been. If Arséne hadn’t played him on the wing since the day he arrived at the club, we would’ve seen this gem of a playmaker a lot sooner.

And for people speculating that he upped his game leading up to the contract renewal, according to himself, the agreement with the Club was in place months ago, this was just the formal contract signing.
