Manchester United may have been knocked out prematurely from the Champions League but perhaps a small consolation is the chance they now have to witness the brightest thing to come out of Ajax for a good while at first hand.  At just twenty years old, Christian Eriksen represents one of the hottest prospects in European football and it’s United who should be taking the closest look at the young Dane.

The attacking midfielder established himself at Ajax at a young age before being picked for his native Denmark where he has now already made twenty appearances and it was one of these appearances which caught the eye and put himself out there for Europe to take note.  The friendly against England last year was a big moment in Eriksen’s career as the high profile status playing against England brings combined with his impressive performance meant Eriksen was now known more widely across Europe.  That performance followed up by equally impressive ones for Ajax have shown how big an influence he could have at Old Trafford.

Alex Ferguson’s pursuit of Wesley Sneijder was a high profile one last season as Ferguson sought after a replacement for the then retired Paul Scholes but was seemingly priced out and unwilling to pay such high wages for a player in his late twenties.  So with Sneijder another year older, Scholes still performing but seriously aging and Giggs set for perhaps his last year could it be the time for Ferguson to invest wisely in a long term successor to Scholes, a player who could replicate the impact of Giggs and Scholes for potentially over ten years.  The 2011 Danish player of the year possesses vast vision and ability to tackle and score goals to match the golden oldies of Old Trafford something Ferguson will realise and will no doubt express an interest in the play come the summer months.

Ferguson has long been after a player who he can build a team round combined with Rooney, Welbeck and now Cleverly and he may just be about to find the man in Christian Eriksen.  Ferguson will no doubt be keeping a closer eye on the opposition’s attacking midfielder than he would normally do and who could blame him, the Dane exudes class and style.  He will become a superstar at Old Trafford given the chance, that chance will surely be offered to him this summer as Manchester United search for the formula to overcome the challenge from their noisy neighbours.

To be perfectly honest he is nothing like new on United’s scope for a possible target.
He has been analysed discussed on many United forums, like the Manchester Evening News. A full in-depth breakdown of his qualities, attributes were disected some months ago on the Sabotage Times.
As time moves on, however so does football and the landscape alters almost daily as we know.
In my opinion it would be wonderful to have another addition in the midfield, to add un-doubted quality to Paul Scholes, Tom Cleverly,Anderson(when he returns)Michael Carrick,Paul Pogba(should he sign a new contract)Ryan Tunnicliffe (on his return from Peterborough)Ryan Giggs(for a further season) in his new deeper role in midfield.
Not forgetting the marvelous in midfield Phil Jones.
    See where I am going?
The point being depending on United’s fighting fund for Summer signings in my opinion there are more demanding need of attention to provide cover in the event of injury etc.
Examples being both full back areas as we have witnessed this season. The twins are great, but highly injury prone. When they learn to make the correct tackle and play the %s to avoid unecessary injury, is purely time as they learn their trade.
Patrice Evra in the twilight of his career, with no real top-level competition, other than Fabio da Silva.
Also in my opinion a much needed defensive mid-fielder is critical. With Paul Scholes only at this stage resigned till the end of this season, he currently is carrying much of this burden, along with Michael Carrick.
While Michael Carrick is in sterling form at present, we need to plan in tandem with Scholes for thier departure. For the future anchor man in front of the defence.
I personally can’t think of one player at Manchester United that can fulfill that role.
    The Bastian Schweinsteiger ‘type’ player.
You could suggest big Phil Jones, however that restricts his glaring skill in driving the game forward. Not only that quality the ability to score goals, once he gets the taste, desire and confidence he can contribute this ‘need’ from an attacking midfilder.
All said, Christian Erkisen would be an asset, but possibly a luxury based on Manchester Uniteds other more demanding needs.
The ‘war-chest’ will be the key as normal.
