SEVEN players who just don’t have a future at Arsenal:

Denilson and Diaby have under performed in the centre of Arsenal's midfield this seasonIf the last few weeks following Arsenal have taught us anything, it’s not just that the club needs to make some astute purchases this summer, it’s also that certain players just aren’t up to scratch and don’t have a future with the club.

The need for Arsenal to clear their decks is becoming increasingly clear to just about everyone – even Arsene Wenger, who is reported to have read his players the riot act during Thursday’s training session, following the Gunners 4-0 drubbing at the hands of AC Milan and wont be feeling any better having watched his side crash out of  the FA Cup.

So just who should Arsenal attempt to get rid of this summer?

The most disappointing aspect of this necessity is that it was equally true of Arsenal last summer. Many of the players on this list are the same individuals that should have been cleared out last year. For one reason or another, however, they stayed and the Gunners have paid the price for their lack of quality this season.

The first players on the way out: Abou Diaby and Denilson. If Sao Paulo can be persuaded to make their loan move for Denilson permanent, then Arsenal should agree to sell for a small fee. Unfortunately, he has showed major signs of ill-discipline with the Brazilian side, who may opt against a permanent switch. Let’s hope that there’s a club somewhere out there who will take him on the cheap.

The same goes for Diaby, who appears more talented than Denilson but a major injury-risk for whatever team he goes on to join. He would represent a big gamble to whichever team he joins and for that reason Arsenal should be prepared to sell for only a small fee.

Next up: oldies Tomas Rosicky and Sebastien Squillaci. Rosicky provides no goal threat and too little cutting edge. I could see him thriving at a mid-table club, but he’s no longer got what it takes to play for Arsenal. If the Gunners can pay anybody to take Squillaci of their hands, then they should do so without a second’s consideration.

Upfront, Maroune Chamakh should go to a League where the pace is slower and Arsene Wenger needs to decide quickly if he thinks Theo Walcott has a future at the club. At the same time, Arsenal will be hoping that Real Sociedad have the funds to make their loan move for Carlos Vela permanent. Whilst most fans are sick of the sight of Andrei Arshavin, I think if Arsenal can get him motivated, he’d still be an asset. We all know that he’s capable of changing the course of a game in an instant and this ability should not go unappreciated.

That’s 6-7 players who ought to be shipped out and replaced by at least 4-5 players of some quality. A particular focus has to be placed now upon the midfield and striker situation and all that remains is to hope that Wenger can find the appropriate fix in the summer transfer market.

I think Theo Walcott needs to improve his final product and fast, otherwise all that promise he has shown will just go to waste and his career could take a nose dive. It baffles me how he is in the team and AOC is being left on the bench. I understand he is young but I think his yourhfulness could be the enthusiasm the team needs to get through this rough spell.

  • okethi richard says:

Iagree with Roland bt also include nicolas ben in the list. The prob with arsenal is we have alot of players who dont deserve to be in the team.Clubs like arsenal must have second eleven whose streight is almost or the same as 1st eleven

  • osa says:

If Van Persie could “shakles” the injury probs, I think Diaby should not be sold, he should just find a way(or perhaps ask from van P how he got rid of injury troubles)Diaby is a very gifted player, we score easily in most matches he plays!!

  • PATRICK says:

You forgot Djourou. The biggest culprit. Absolutely unfit to don an Arsenal jersey. A huge waste of Salary and space. Even his look is foolish
