Vela: Don’t make me go back to Arsenal! Great headline, courtesy of The Mirror. Great use of an exclamation mark – really drives home the point that there can be nothing worse than playing for the Gunners. Particularly if your name is Carlos Vela and you could be playing for the mighty Real Sociedad.

The Mexican International is currently on loan with the Spanish side but is keen to engineer a permanent deal and avoid a return back to North London: “I don’t want to return to Arsenal. I have asked my agent to negotiate with Arsenal to stay here.”

That’s a little blunt considering Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger put in a lot of time and effort giving the choppy young Mexican a platform to prove his worth and a stage on which to make his name. I doubt there are many other clubs that would have given Vela so many opportunities throughout an extremely spotty start to his career. What’s more Wenger has engineered four loan moves for Vela (to Salamanca, Osasuna, West Brom and Real Sociedad). Ungratefulness aside, I think Vela is probably right – it’s time to move on.

The trouble for Vela is that Sociedad aren’t the most financially secure club and may not be able to secure a permanent deal. But he has slowly started to prove his importance in La Liga, even scoring against Barcelona at the Nou Camp on the weekend. Vela has pace, skill and good finishing ability. Weirdly enough, however, he just doesn’t score enough goals.

Whether that’s because of a lack of confidence, or a lack of movement is anybody’s guess, but it’s a clear weakness in his game and a major reason why he was unable to make his mark at Arsenal. Chip finishes aside, there were too many occasions when Vela received the ball in an Arsenal shirt and didn’t have a foggiest as to what to do with it. In the search for trophies, the Gunners can no longer afford to carry passengers and that’s exactly what he’d be should Real Sociedad send him packing back to North London.

So it’s in the best interest of Vela and Arsenal that he makes a permanent move to La Liga. I think the Spanish League suits his style of play better than the tougher Premier League. All that remains now is to hope that Sociedad have the resources and the will-power to back the young Mexican.

Actually Carlos we dont want you back and you can tell Denilson, Bentner, Squillaci, Flappy, Galindo, Diaby, Djourou that they are all surplus to AFC now. Sell that lot and save a fortune in unecessary wages and bank about £ 25/30 mill. This will allow AW to buy another world class scorer like Benzema….this is the magic bullet we need.

Dont blame Vela. He was never given a decent chance to prove himself, Wenger preffered all his frog brethren. Vela is a good skilfull player and when you compare him to Walcott,Chamak, Diaby and Arshavin, hes by far better than all of them. As for the others you mention , good riddance to bad rubbish!
