Do Arsenal regret letting Emmanuel Adebayor leave and would they take him back?

It must have been an odd experience for an Arsenal fan to watch Spurs annihilate Newcastle 5-0 at the weekend. After all, the rout was more or less engineered by ex-Gunner Emmanuel Adebayor. It doesn’t get much better than four assists and one goal as Adebayor absolutely dominated a lacklustre Newcastle defence. I would claim that the Togo International is working hard to earn his exorbitant wage, but that wouldn’t make much sense, considering that his parent club Manchester City are picking up the majority of the slack in this department.

All in all things have worked out perfectly for Tottenham. They’ve got a player on loan, who they pay a reasonable weekly salary to each week and who in turn is providing the goods. Man City wont care all that much as they look set to win the Premier League without Adebayor’s help. So it’s Arsenal who are the real losers here, having let go of Adebayor back in 2009.

Yet it didn’t look like a mistake at the time – it looked like the only viable option. His attitude had begun to grate on Arsenal fans as he would hold the club to ransom one week and kiss the badge the next. It was at Arsenal that his mercenary tendencies bubbled to the fore. It soon became clear that despite his talent, his primary interest in football was in the money it offered him as opposed to the buzz it gave him to be out there playing the sport he loves on the biggest stages in the world.

By 2009 most Arsenal fans were sick of the sight of him and a £25m move to Man City was greeted with a sigh of relief. Let’s not forget, it was Arsene Wenger who took a chance on Emmanuel Adebayor and brought him to the Premier League. Adebayor had only scored 18 goals in 78 games for Monaco, but Wenger saw potential there and took a gamble. How did Adebayor repay this faith? By running the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of Arsenal fans when he scored against his former club during his first season with Man City. Classy, eh?

Despite this, his talent has always been clear as is his penchant for getting goals wherever he goes. In this respect, Arsenal fans may be disappointed to have seen him moved on and finding success in Manchester and with their North London rivals.

Which brings us to the question: would Arsenal fans take him back at the club should he leave City this summer? Arsenal have needed another striker all season and will be in dire need of another forward should Van Persie leave when the transfer window re-opens.

Whilst his wage demands are a concern, City would presumably be willing to let him go on the cheap. Then there’s the Spurs connection: can Arsenal fans see past their rivalry with Tottenham and consent to the return of Adebayor? If Tottenham rose above the North London rivalry then perhaps Arsenal can too.

What’s your take? Would you have Emmanuel Adebayor back at Arsenal?

I would take him back in a heart beat, we should never have let him in the first place

Look, Adebayor has proved his character with several clubs now. When things are buzzing, as they are at Spurs right now, then he will fine. But when they are not he is the first to go into a sulk and stop pulling his weight. This was exactly the case in his last season at Arsenal, and probably at City too. Maybe at Spurs they haven’t seen the other side of him yet, but Arsenal have and so resigning is out of the question.

When he was forced to sell him Arsene said… You will see one day that he is a great player.

We should learn to trust our Manager more. Adebayor and Van Persie would have been an awesome frontline.
Maybe just maybe we would have ended our drought.

Maybe we are doing exactly the same thing with Chamakah right now…
    Think About it.

Spurs fan here, listen boys, he has had 1 excellent game….he has been average throughout the season….his touch and hold up play is immense but he isnt a finisher.

The only other good game he has had was against Liverpool, other than that he is extremely frustrating and any striker in world football would score goals with Parker, Modric, Lennon, Bale, Krancjar and vander Vaart supplying chances…..

Hence Louis Saha couldnt hit a barn door with Everton but scores 2 against one of the best defences in the premiership on his full debut.

Imagine if we had RVP wow….truth is if Adebayor went back to Arsenal they would still be crap…..they need 2 decent wingers, 2 decent midfielders and 2 full backs…….Adebayor is the last thing they need when you have the best striker in the league carrying you through each and every game.

Only thing about RVP is I dont think he has ambition he gets excited about scoring goals for a team struggling to string 2 passes together….I would be truelly pissed off if I had to play with the junk he has to…..saying that he hasnt signed a contract so may be intending on leaving

we will never bring him back.
spuds will never finish above arsenal.
    without bale, spuds are nothing.
