One last shot for Manchester United’s troubled teen?

There’s been a fair amount of column inches spent on Manchester United’s young Ravel Morrison and in recent times not all the Press has been friendly. There has been a lot of speculation regarding his future and it’s been suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson’s patience has run out with the 18-year-old and is willing to sell. He’s talented beyond his years, but his commitment is questionable and it appears the demands Morrison is making on his club are too much and he may have to move elsewhere.

And then there was the strange business with Rio Ferdinand’s watch. Fuelled by Twitter a few mischief makers spread the story that Morrison had been caught stealing Rio Ferdinand’s watch. Of course these rumours were soon dismissed by the player and Ferdinand itself, but that they spread so quickly is a testament to both the power of Twitter and the Morrison’s low-stock with United fans.

With all the discontent surrounding the 18-year-old, is his Manchester United career coming to a swift end? I for one want Ravel to stay at the club on the basis of his ability and the fact that it’s quite clear he needs a firm hand to guide him. In that respect, who would be better than Sir Alex Ferguson?

When questioned about what he looks for in a young player by Yahoo, Sir Alex had this to say:

“Well the most obvious thing is his ability to play the game but there has to be more than that. You look at his character, his enthusiasm, how does he play when his team are losing? Has he got nice balance, has he got pace, has he got good athleticism about him, because the modern game has certainly changed in that respect. So there is a lot of things that go into the makeup but I think definitely if you have got a player with good ability, enthusiasm and desire to win games you’re going a decent way to getting a decent player. “

Despite commitment issues off the pitch, whenever he does get a game, Ravel looks like the real deal. He certainly has the enthusiasm and drive to win games, he’s a good athlete and he can carve out a ball. Questions may well be asked about his character, but isn’t that something the club could work on over time? He’s still an impressionable man and wouldn’t it be better for him to receive his footballing education with Manchester United?

It would be such a shame for him to leave the club and go on to find success elsewhere. If he is to succeed anywhere, it has to be with United and for that the club will have to offer him one more chance.

What’s your take? Has Morrison had his last shot, or is he in the last-chance saloon?

I think he should be giving another chance def but he does need to realise the great club he’s at as anywhere else in England for me is a step down and to be managed by SAF is an even bigger plus so pull your socks up sign a deal and the money will find you!!!

Rumour has it that his agent is asking for him to be the 5th or 6th highest wage-earner at United and he hasn’t even played a first-team game yet.

  • Mikey says:

Totally agree hes impressionable and needs a firm hand … just not sure he can straighten out if based on manchester where hes keeping not so good company … might be he needs to get away … sad but true.

  • Lex says:

You could be right Mikey as from what ive seen he thinks heself a gangsta in manchester and i dont get that at all as if i were in his shoes i’d be signing my contract offered and getting my head down trying to break into the first team………….

    • ToneDiez says:

Exactly. Why try to look like a gangster, having to do illegal things to get by and make money? When you can be getting paid millions by the time you’re 20 to play Football professionally for the biggest club in your country! True sign of immaturity, he needs to straighten himself out, whether he stays or leaves. Nobody wants to deal with that type of childish attitude, might as well be a hooligan.

  • realist says:

Anybody given any thought to other teams fans
causing mischief by accusing the lad of stealing on twitter? obviously the lads innocent
Rio confirmed this, sadly there are a lot of bitter and twisted fans out there, who take great
delight in stirring the pot for oposition teams,
lets leave the lad be, and let him work out his
own situation, without doubt if the lad has a measure of decency, he would be well aware of what United have done for him, and what they can do for him in the future, and i for one firmly believe he does.

  • lununcle says:

he certainly deserves more chances give he is only 18. But the question is: does he want to play for United? Only himself knows the answer. If he has got everything that SAF is looking for as a player, and he wants to play for United, money will eventually find him if he stays. At the age of 18, money should not be the only driver in football.

  • Ole says:

Morrison turns 19 in a couple of weeks, and though he is still a good talent, it is obvious that he has wasted his last 12 months. You can not afford to do that, if you want to succeed at the highest level, a level Morrison has yet to play at…

He would probably benefit from going on loan to a small club where you have to clean the kit yourself…
