Is this man Liverpool’s dream signing?

Tottenham's Gareth Bale will face Real Madrid in the quarter finals of the Champion's LeagueHaving finally got their grubby mitts on Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, Barcelona fans voted Gareth Bale the player they would most like to be their star signing of 2012. Which raises the question: is Bale the most sought after footballer in the world at the moment?

Anybody who could persuade Bale to leave Spurs would make a massive statement of intent. His signing could be viewed as the impetus to move onto bigger and better things. So I can’t help but wonder, would Bale be the ideal signing for a club like Liverpool? Wouldn’t his signing represent a paradigm example of John Henry’s business plan and his dealings in the transfer market?

Tottenham have cemented their position as a club that doesn’t have to sell if they don’t want to and it would take a massive sum to persuade them to part with their star player. All of this goes to make any potential signing of Gareth Bale highly unlikely, but that doesn’t make him any less of an ideal match.

His direct, pacy running in combination with his ability to cross the ball and knack for scoring has seen him tear apart a number of Premier League teams this season. Whilst he spent the majority of last season dealing with the hype that came from a couple of stand-out big game performances, this season has finally seen him put in performances that match his myth.

He may not be the best player in the world as things currently stand, but in a couple of seasons time would anybody doubt that he’ll be up there in the top three or so?

What’s more he’s a true professional and a genuine role model. He’d help to improve the image of this Liverpool side and boost shirt sales by a significant amount. His signing would open up a number of marketing streams that may well justify the extortionate transfer fees that Tottenham would no doubt demand.

Of course, Bale’s unlikely to leave Spurs for a club that can’t offer Champions League football. This just goes to highlight how essential a top four finish is to a club like Liverpool. A couple of seasons outside the Premier League elite and they may well find it impossible to compete. After all, why would Bale join Liverpool when he could join Barcelona instead?

What’s your take? Would you take Bale at Liverpool?

  • lee says:

That will cost £50m …Liverpool cant afford it

  • Ant says:

Answered your own question there, what a stupid article. Why on earth would Bale want to join Liverpool??? I’m a Spurs fan and if he left I’m sure he’d take a massive step up and that in no way includes Liverpool!

    Dream signing Gareth Bale!
You better wipe that milk off your face sounds like you fell asleep whilst eating your cornflakes again! COYS!!!

  • Ronald says:

    What on earth is this?

Would Liverpool, the 6th best team in the league, like one of the best players in the league? Errr, yes, I’d have thought they would.

Would Spurs sell Bale for anything other than a massive fee? No

Therefore, could Liverpool, having splashed out insane money over the last 12 months afford him? No

Would Bale contemplate going to a team that is currently behind Spurs? No

    End of story

  • Jonny says:

Only thing i could possibly agree with is that he would suit Liverpool, as he would suit any club in the world… but saying that he would go anywhere near Liverpool is pure comedy!!!! Liverpool will struggle to be within 10 points of 4th, he is at a club potentially challenging for the Prem Title (thou they wont win this season). Only Barca or Real can get him

  • NickLFCcy says:

who comes up with this crap ? Bale will never leave spurs, atleast not this season so whats the point whether Liverpool would have him or not ? Pointless article didnt even read it

    Another nothing story.

    Why would Spurs sell?

Why would Bale move to a team that is currently lower in the league, and not as an attacking team to match his playing style.

Why would Liverpool spend this much on a Winger/Full Back who is eye catching but one dimensional. What happens if he were to lose his pace?

Liverpool need a goal scorer (because Carroll isn’t doing the business), a very tricky winger(because Downing isn’t doing the business) and maybe an attacking midfielder(because Adam isn’t doing the business). Start those rumours. 😉

A pointless article. You might as well ask “would you take Messi at Liverpool”…

    Wishful n pointless thinking!

  • DaveWestAus says:

Barcelona have done nothing in their history to compare with LFC ! ‘IN FACT’ neither Barcelona or Real Madrid have had the success over the last 50 years that LFC/Ajax/AC Milan have had in Europe !!! ‘ABSOLUTE FACT’ It defies comprehension why players want to go to those clubs !!!

    • redhed17 says:

Much as I’d like to think players take the last 50 years of history into account when they move, they don’t. Players move for money, a chance to win stuff and a very distant last place ‘may’ be the history of the club. I mean can you name the team that team that Samuel Eto’o gets stupid amounts of money to play for? Has Man City got the history?Do you think players will start going to Malaga for the history over the next few years?

Barcelona are currently the best team in the World, not over the last 50 years, but now, and for the last few years. They have loads of money too because they are successful, but mostly the disproportionate TV deal they get in Spain. So let’s see, a 50/50 chance of winning the league each year, and a 25-50% chance of winning the Champions League at the moment, and they have loads of money, I wonder why anyone would want to go there.

I’m a Liverpool fan btw, so I’d wish the history was more of a draw, because at the moment, that’s and money are all we have.

  • James says:

pointless article, Liverpool cannot just rely on past success, means nothing. Past success does not equal a good team

  • dixie222 says:

you never know this could happen. lets see; when england bomb out of the euro’s and cappello is sacked the FA give harry the job. harry will jump at it as he has no real loyalty other than to himself (not a dig) leaving totenham managerless. unless totenham get in someone that has the same magic as harry then tottenham may go back to where they where; spending lots of money and hiring and firing managers!

  • Birat says:
