Could this £51m transfer pairing put Manchester United in the driving seat?

Media Watch: Manchester United put on red alert for Italian supremoAccording to The Daily Mail, Manchester United are interested in signing Milos Krasic from Juventus and Daniele De Rossi from Roma.

United are certainly in the hunt for a new central midfielder after the recent health problems suffered by Darren Fletcher which has forced him to take an extended break from football and also the injuries suffered by Anderson and Tom Cleverley.

But even before the loss of those midfielders, Manchester United have long been suffering at the centre of their midfield and have lacked creativity and bite and De Rossi will certainly bring the latter.

At 27, De Rossi is still a one-club man having spent his entire career at his boyhood club Roma. The player is about to enter into his 11th year at the Rome club having made his debut in 2001. In total De Rossi has made 263 appearances and is already considered a legend at the club.

The Italian international has been linked with moves away from Roma for many years, with Real Madrid in particular chasing his signature on numerous occasions, but each time De Rossi has pledged his loyalty to Roma.

If De Rossi decides the time has come to leave Roma, United will face stiff competition from their neighbours Manchester City, as Roberto Mancini is a huge admirer of the combative Italian midfielder and he has never given up hope of signing him.

But speaking last week, De Rossi admitted he was flattered by the interest in him but he prefers to stay at Roma.

He said:

“The English Premier League would be a great experience, and it’s nice to hear that [Manchester United coach] Alex Ferguson and [Manchester City coach] Roberto Mancini would be interested and take me to Manchester,”

“However, I do not intend to leave Rome, and I want to stay here.”

De Rossi’s current deal at Roma expires at the end of next season, and the the two parties have so far failed to agree on a new contract, which continues to put De Rossi’s future in doubt, which has put several of Europe’s top clubs on alert.

United have also been linked with a move for Serbian international winger Milos Krasic this week and according to The Daily Mail, the winger is poised to join them on loan.

The 27 year-old has completely fallen out of favour at Juventus this season under new Coach Antonio Conte, who prefers not to use Krasic in his 4-3-3 system.

With a growing injury list that includes Javier Hernandez and Michael Owen, United are in desperate need of some attacking reinforcements and the short-term deal of Krasic should ease some of United’s pain. But along with United, AC Milan and Chelsea are also interested in signing Krasic.
