Why Tottenham need to keep transfer-hungry Madrid off their star defender:

TalkSPORT may not be the most trust-worthy source when it comes to transfers, but would anybody bet against interest from the likes of Real Madrid in Tottenham youngster Kyle Walker? Over the last couple of seasons Madrid seem to have been linked with just about every Spurs star that has put in a half-decent performance. They seem keen to become the Barca to Tottenham’s Arsenal: a constant transfer window hassle.

It’s been rumoured that both Madrid and Roma are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old right-back and could even make a move this January in an attempt to test Tottenham’s nerve.

To me, however, these rumours just don’t make much sense. Walker has worked so hard to break into the Tottenham first-team and now that he’s ‘made it’, why would he scarper off and join another League? He’s beginning to look like the real deal and his goal against Arsenal (the one that underlined Szczesny’s over-confidence) has installed him as a fan favourite at White Hart Lane.

This seems to me to be another case of the media noticing that Spurs are doing well and trying to create a discord. According to the tabloids and places like TribalFootball and GiveMeFootball, half of Tottenham’s squad will have been sold by the end of the January transfer window. Thankfully it’s all just nonsense.

Having said that however, if there is any truth to these rumours I hope that Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy fight tooth and nail to keep hold of him. He really has been instrumental in the early stages of this season and looks like a real prospect for the future.

Indeed, I wouldn’t be surprised if his performances had England’s Glen Johnson looking nervously over his shoulder.

If the Madrid interest is genuine (after all, I really can’t see Walker wanting to move to Italy to join a faultering League) how much should Tottenham demand they stump up before they even consider letting him go? He’s young, talented and an English international and he’s under contract until 2016, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Levy adopted a similar stance to the one he did with Modric over the summer.

It’d be a stance I’d be happy to see too. The more Tottenham establish themselves as a club that is unwilling to sell its best players, the better. It’s clear that Tottenham are going places and if they can keep hold of their brightest lights this January they’ll be a real threat this year.

There wouldn`t be a problem if you hacks stopped publishing this shiite all the time, and people talk about managers unsettling players.

Hypocrisy? Perish the thought. Just goes to show that not all recycling has merit. Yet another site providing the oxygen of rumourmongering .
