Three great choices but which other Arsenal legends deserve their statues?

|

The worst kept secret in football has been unveiled. Three Arsenal legends Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams and Thierry Henry are being honoured in stone. Who could argue the choices? Herbert Chapman will be remembered as the manager that transformed Arsenal, built the foundations of the club and gave us so much history. As for Tony Adams, he was maybe the best Captain ever in world football. Tony Adams will always be remembered as the greatest Arsenal Captain and possibly their best ever defender and is worthy of his statue. Then there’s not only Arsenal’s best player but maybe the best player to step on English soil; yes its Arsenal’s leading goal scorer Thierry Henry! What more has to be said? Voted Arsenal’s best ever player by the fans, it would be a crime if this man wasn’t still the face of this football club.

But surely three statues aren’t enough? There has to be other players that deserve their chance to be immortalised at the Emirates. Now I’m only going to select another three but again there could be far more. The three I have selected are from the invincible squad – I mean who else could I choose? The first and yet another defender is ‘The Rock’ Sol Campbell. Coming from Spurs Campbell had a lot to prove to the Arsenal fans and boy did he deliver. Campbell proved to be a rock at the back of the arsenal defence boasting pace, power and an amazing recovery tackle that let no Striker get near the Arsenal goal. Let’s not forget that he organised the Arsenal side that went forty nine games unbeaten.

Next on the list is Robert Pires, Arsenal’s great creator. Pires was inspirational throughout his time at Arsenal, and was not just a goal scoring midfielder but was a scorer of great goals, with his most memorable being his goals against Aston Villa and Tottenham. Although his time at Arsenal will have been soured by the way he left the club Pires will be surely saddened to miss out on having his statue made with his time at Arsenal remembered by most Gunners fans with great fondness.

Last but not least: It’s the Ice Man. It’s incredible that Dennis Bergkamp the striker voted the second best ever player by Arsenal fans wasn’t chosen to be granted immortality in stone. Perhaps has to be the biggest omission from the Legend statues. Bergkamp made the position behind the striker (the hole) his own and after a slow start to his arsenal career he started to shine providing goals from all over the pitch. I’d argue that his best three goals in an Arsenal shirt game happened in the same game, against Leicester. The Arsenal man scored from outside the box, inside the box and even bouncing the ball over defender’s heads before cooly slotting it into the back of the net.

So there we have it – that’s my alternative legends. I do not disagree with those already chosen but there are so many Arsenal legends that I haven’t even mentioned all those that deserve to be there. With that in mind, who would be your top three Arsenal legends?

  • Yura Dumbass says:

Really? Campbell and Pires ahead of Wenger? Its embarassing for the club to omit the one who has revolutionized the premier league and brought the club its greatest success. Recognize the true legend, Arsene Wenger.

    • Cameron Makeman says:

I fully agree mate I only did former players however i would love Wenger to have a statue i can only assume arsenal are waiting for Wenger to retire before making his.

  • Law says:

Agree with you, Dennis Bergkamp definitely deserves a statue.

  • meaner says:

Patrick Viera did a great job during his time at Arsenal. But is he a gooner now? Honest I don’t think so.
