Could Arsenal look to Newcastle for a solution to their striking blues?

Arsenal’s need for options upfront has grown so pressing that even Arsene Wenger has admitted he may be on the look-out for a striker this January. Robin Van Persie is an immense talent, but he simply can’t be expected to carry the whole Arsenal team on his back. Marouane Chamakh is unreliable and Park-Chu Young just doesn’t seem ready, so it’s up to Wenger and his scouting team to bring in somebody who can provide Arsenal with goals.

Whilst my ideal option would be Cologne’s Lukas Podolski, the German forward may well decide that he wishes to stay in the Bundesliga. So it makes sense at this early stage to consider other options.

Without wanting to show Newcastle fans any disrespect, I can’t help but wonder if their Senegalese forward Demba Ba could be an option. Newcastle have lost enough players to ‘bigger’ clubs in recent years and will be keen to keep hold of their leading goal scorer. Despite this, however, I’m sure that plenty of top teams will be keeping tabs on Ba this January.

He has scored 11 goals this season (the same number as Sergio Aguero) in the Premier League alone. He has been nothing short of prolific and given the fact that he was also successful in a poor West Ham side last season it’s fair to say that he has proved himself in the League.

But he’s not yet at a stage where he could command an exorbitant price-tag. As such the Gunners could pick him up at a relatively reasonable price, should they persuade Newcastle to sell.

Given the fluency of Arsenal’s midfield, Demba Ba would receive plenty of service. In turn, given the fact that he’s a natural goal scorer (unlike say – Chamakh or Bendtner) I’m sure he’d score plenty of goals. He simply doesn’t strike me as another Andy Carroll – a man who looked capable, but flopped on the big stage.

I think it’s Ba’s attitude that elevates him above other Premier League strikers. His determination and competitive edge make certain that he’s always racing to be in the right place at the right time.

Of course, it’s worth considering that Ba will be off the African Cup of Nations this January. Given that Chamakh and Gervinho will also be off, Arsenal will be pretty short in this area.

But is this enough to rule out a move for one of the Premier League’s best strikers?

Yes, he is definitely an exciting prospect for Arsenal but only Arsene will know.

  • ed says:

like arsenal would pay the required amount. simple arithmatic
dont think arsenal gan afford him, and then you have the knee to worry about lmao, long live the toon

  • Toon69 says:

Are you smoking some funny? the reason I’m asking is, Ba only went to the Toon this summer & the rules state a player can not play for 3 different clubs with a 12 month span, so that one reason you’ll not get him, another is the pure disrespect you’ve shown the Toon in the fact you think because you’re the Arse-nil, you’ll get him for a song… get real, Carroll only scored 11 goals for us too & he went for £35m, so if you think our owner Ashley would sell Ba to yous lot for anything less, yous are defo smoking something illegal thats for sure…. 🙁

    • davi says:

Completely agree, we (arsenal) should have got him in the summer. It was obvious he was a quality striker from his time at West Ham, and Newcastle stepped in and got themselves a bargain (one of many this summer, I think).

  • Doug says:

Snap your fingers and you shal receive. For one it’ll be hard to prise him away from a club he openly loves playing for. And if you knew anything about NUFC you’d know that our fat owner would never let him go cheaply.

So I hate to say it but can’t see that one happening.

Plus we’ll probably finish above you after your van persie tea tray gets injured and can’t carry the ten other mugs in your team!!

  • BillytheFish says:

Apparently Shola Ameobi might be available….£25m anyone?

  • TV5 says:

Iam a Gonner but completely agree with Toon69, ridiculous!

  • g clarke says:

park have had no chance to play and the ox looks another rooney can beat a player and shoot both feet played for south at 16 maybe not ideal to start him now but rooney was young going to be top player

  • GoalMouth says:

    HA!

Soon as Newcastle start doing anything useful, everybody & their wife wants their players.
    Get a scouting team!

Newcastle doesn’t need your money & they only sell for big bucks.

I thought they were headed for relegation?
Some do absolutely no research whatsoever.

Do you watch football north of Barnet?

  • Chinmay says:

As a gooner, i don’t see it happening. But, i’m laughing my ass off to some toons’ comments. Guys, get a life- days of NU have long gone! Don’t show attitude to Arsenal- we’re back from the dead, while you’re going anywhere but up since your ‘unbeaten’ cherry popped this season.

    • Toon4Life says:

      “Back from the dead?”

Look who’s talking! I remember a certain team in Black and White who came back from the dead against a shitty arse-nil team.

      • Chinmay says:

yeah, and the same day, the league champions lost their fixture. hardly mattered, wouldn’t you say?
P.S. i saw more of the toons in the movie ‘Goal’ and i think that was the best possible club that they could have portrayed there.
        P.P.S. ‘Arse-nil”? amusing!!

  • smartie1947 says:

This story does not make a lot of sense. If Chamakh and Gervinho are unavailable during the African Nations Cup, how will it help Van Persie in the short term by buying another striker who is also off to the A.N.C.

  • ogban says:

The man is going for the ACN. That’s not what we need.

  • Tim says:

    Chinmay

    All I’m saying is 4-4

    Ha Ha Ha

  • Francis Angrey says:

All that’s mere speculation. We don’t even need him because of his ANC engagement come January.

  • Tonscin says:

“Let me see”. you miserable toon fans do arsenal look like liverpool who by players who cannot perform on the big stage keep him i heard wolves are coming for him

  • Colin says:

Chinmay, lol, the days of Arsenal have long gone too

  • Sharpie says:

I like the way you have just made this rumor up! There’s no way this will happen first because why would any striker go to Arsenal just to play second fiddle to RVP if there getting regular football elsewhere? it’s not like going to the Emirates is going to mean trophies anymore is it? Also Ba can’t pass medicals because of his knee injury. He’s a big risk which is paying off for us at the moment because he was free but if Arsenal want him then he’s going to be 7mil plus and paying that for a player with documented injuries wouldn’t happen.

No way this transfer is viable for either clubs, forget about it

  • UTD111 says:

This just simply isn’t going to happen. Bit of a strange article really. Arsenal need a striker, United have Demba Ba, Arsenal can sign him no problem for a few beans.
    Illogical Captain!!!
