Surely this signals the end of this Tottenham man’s career:

According to Harry Redknapp, Ledley King has an abductor strain and will be out ‘for a while’. Whilst I don’t suppose this will come as any great surprise questions may arise as to the implications for King and the rest of the squad. After all, with Gallas also on the sidelines, Spurs will have to rely on Younes Kaboul to hold the defence together.

And given certain comments Harry has made regarding King in the past, a big question mark will currently be hovering over Ledley’s future at the club.

It’s such a shame that King has picked another injury. He’s really suffered over the last 2-3 seasons through no fault of his own. We all know what a quality player he is and how much more sound Tottenham’s defence would have been were he to be a regular fixture in the side. The ability and attitude has never been in question. His capacity to play regular football in the Premier League however will always be in doubt.

The trouble may well be that he has had so many operations and so much treatment on his knee that he can’t train as much or as intensely as others and this may well have led to more injuries. Of course this is all conjecture, but you feel there must be an underlying reason for all his bad luck when it comes to injury.

Whatever the case, this latest news must have left Harry wondering just what he’s going to do. It wasn’t so long ago that Harry claimed Ledley would have to play 20 games this season if he were to have a future with Tottenham. Of course it is early on in the season but there may be some worry now that he wont fulfil this quota.

And if he doesn’t manage to pull it off, will he be cast aside by the club in the same way that Woodgate was in the summer?

With injuries piling up in defensive positions, I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry doesn’t regret his failure to secure the services of Bolton’s Gary Cahill during the transfer window.

I personally hope that once Ledley recovers from his injury he’ll get a real run of games in this squad that will give Harry no choice but to keep him. Should he fail to do this, however, it strikes me that the club will have little to no choice but to send him packing. He may be Tottenham through and through, but there’s no use him staying at the club eating away at the wage-bill and not playing.

Harsh maybe, but is it time to get realistic?

His record speaks for itself and we just look so much calmer with him in the team, no matter who else of Gallas, Dawson, Kaboul or Bassong is playing. If we can get 20 games a season out of him, he should be the first name on the team sheet.

get up to date, its a grade 1 tear and if all goes to plan he will be back in a month

    Never mind “thsisfutbol”

    This is out of date

I have been watching football for over 40 years and Ledley is the best defender I have ever seen. He has everything. Sunday demonstrated all you need to know about him. For 30 minutes we were calm in defence and all trouble was snuffed out. When Ledley went off it was chaos all round the pitch. He brings a calming influence and complete confidence to everyone around him. Ever week I watch MOTD and witness Terry going missing at every set piece usually ending up in the middle of the goal. I watch him flying into tackles. Ledley simply heads the high balls out, intercepts on the deck and jostles his man until he can make the tackle. He never needs to dive in. Ledley is a world class player, Terry a complete fraud. While we can get 10 games a season out of him (all of which we tend to wi) he will stay.

The person who wrote this is an idiot and just trying to stir up a needless debate, how can you think of getting rid of your best and most consistent defender, our rock and heartbeat ?
Who ever plays with him instantly looks a better player, his impact just by being on the pitch is immeasureable.
    If you need a debate then talk about the Defoe or Rafa story, this has more legs and will run all season;

  • Cyril says:

Ridiculous headline. King Ledley is an all time great who has continually played through the pain for Spurs. Apart from Glenn Hoddle, he is the best player we have brought through in the many years I have been following the club. He deserves so much better than the luck he has had. No way is this the end of his career.

  • Champagne says:

I would love to see Ledley King continue to be involved as a coach for the defence after he has hung up his boots. He has a wealth of experience which is invaluable to be imparted to other players.

  • spurs84 says:

The easy solution to keep everyone happy is to offer ledley king a pay as you play contract! Then there is no wage to pay while he is injured and as stated in another comment when he is fit he will be the first name on the team sheet! COYS!

  • Tom Erik says:

Give him a life long contract, i want him at spurs for life!

  • SPURSINCE82 says:

NEVER THOUGHT I’D SAY THIS, BUT IF THE MANAGEMENT DO NOT FEEL IT NECESSARY TO REPLACE HIM LIKE FOR LIKE, THEN THE CLUB WILL JUST CONTIMUE IN THIS YO YO EFFECT IN TERMS OF COVER OR ABOVE ADEQUATE REPLACEMENT.. IN THE GRAND SCHEME, HE IS DEFO MY FAV SPURS PLAYER, THE IRONY.. THAT WAITING ON HIM IS LIKE WAITING AROUND FOR THAT PERFECT BIRD, TITS FACE AND PERSONALITY ( DID I MENTION ARSE.. EXCEPT IT NEVER QUITE COMES IN ONE PACKAGE THAT WAY. wE NEED TO GET REALISTIC AND AT THE VERY LEAST LOOK TO INTRODUCE ANOTHER OF THE SAME OR SIMILAR QUALITY

  • Roy Singh says:

I suggest we engage him as a player coach to ease his mind of a contract . Play him only when its safe to do so without aggravating his injury. He could teach Daws & others in defence how it should be done.In this way he still maintains a full time job with Spurs without stressing.

  • Garbs says:

I think the guy who wrote this should stop writing for Tottenham Hotspur.

  • Jamesalot says:

Ledders should play when he can, end-of. He will go on a pay-as-you-play contract I hope and when he’s fit he plays (first on the team sheet) – even if it’s only 5 games a season!!

The new injury is only a tear.. he’ll be back in 3 weeks’ time. J

    • Jamesalot says:

..of course a valid argument would be that we go in to disarray without him – because we rely on him. You want your Centre Halves to play every game don’t you as a foundation and base for the rest of the team?
