A bright future for Liverpool’s marmite man:

I’ve heard and seen a number of differentLiverpoolfans express different opinions regarding Andy Carroll. Some don’t appear to have any patience for the 22-year-old, whilst others are slightly more positive and believe that the best is yet to come. Almost everybody on the other hand would like to see Carroll replicate his form from his last season in aNewcastleshirt.

Whilst he’s never quite been on that level when he’s played forLiverpoolthere have been signs that he’s approaching his best form and flickers of the brilliance he once possessed. Consider his first League goal against Everton, a simple, well-taken strikers finish that will hopefully build up his confidence and lead to more of the same.

More importantly still, he’s full of energy, chases after everything and always causes havoc for defenders. I’d liken him to a talented Kevin Davies. I’ve even seen some people argue that he gets to involved in build-up play and that he’s best suited staying in the box and waiting for service. That’s an interesting point and it’s well worth considering.

Whenever Carroll gets his head to the ball it ends up back with the opposition because there’s never anybody near him waiting to feed off of his knock-downs.Liverpooleither need to offer Andy Carroll more support in this regard or play him further up the pitch where he can just concentrate on finishing.

It’s not like he has the pace to pass and run past players.Liverpoolshould be putting to better use his best attributes. We know what he’s good at and we know he’s a natural finisher, so why not just give him orders to stay as high up the pitch as possible, find space and wait for service?

Even when he’s not scoring goals you can see how hungry he is to get involved with play and make things happen. It’s encouraging to see that he’s not the kind of player who hides when he’s not getting goals. Perhaps that’s why Torres was so widely mocked before he got his first Chelsea goal – he simply didn’t offer the club anything.

With Andy Carroll on the other hand, the opposition always has to be wary. If they relax for even a second it’s clear that he’ll make them regret it.

As the games go by,Liverpoolfans are becoming more and more supportive of Carroll. Surely it wont take much longer until he’s a fan favourite?

  • Andy Carroll is one of the young footballers that are the future of the English national team. I run a website about Andy, and am trying to get as many England fans as I can all over the web to come together to show their support for him on my site and its Facebook page. Please take the time to check it out and maybe spread the word if you like us.
