Why this Liverpool star should never have seen Red

Liverpool  suffered their second defeat of the season as they were beaten 4-0 by Tottenham  at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Luka Modric opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a fantastic strike before Reds playmaker Charlie Adam  was booked for a challenge on the Croatian.

In the 18th minute Andy Carroll fed strike partner Luis Suarez and the Uruguayan poked the ball into the net but it was ruled out off for offside. Then in the 28th minute, Adam went to collect a looping ball but as he put his foot up to control it he caught Tottenham ’s Scott Parker above the knee. Referee Mike Jones showed Adam his second yellow card and the Scott was sent from the field.

At first glance the tackle looked to be reckless by Adam, however the replay clearly shows that Adam was looking at the ball and completely unaware of Parker’s presence. He lifted his leg to control the ball and caught Parker above the knee accidentally.

Admittedly the rules do state that a player should be sent off for catching another above the knee, but in this case common sense should have prevailed and Tottenham should have received a free-kick with no further action taken. Mike Jones was very close to the play and should have seen that Adam had no intention of going for Parker, it was just an unfortunate collision.

Later in the match Martin Skrtel, who was playing at right-back because of injuries to Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly, was sent off after collecting his second yellow card for going through the back of Gareth Bale. Skrtel had struggled to contain the Welshman all game with Tottenham’s left-winger beating the Slovak four times in the opening 15 minutes.

Jermaine Defoe made it 2-0 to the home side in the 66th minute before his shot from the edge of the box was parried by Pepe Reina and Emanuel Adebayor was able to convert following a clever piece of skill. Liverpool’s frustration showed as Luis Suarez was booked for sarcastically applauding a refereeing decision before Adebayor got his second of the game in the last minute to make the score Tottenham 4 Liverpool 0.

    what goes around comes around!
He definitely should have got a red last season for his tackle on Bale.
It all balances out in the end.

    • Gordon Bennett says:

      Not relevant!

The foul was a bookable offence. Adam went through with a reckless challenge waist-high on an incoming player, studs out, into the player’s thigh when Parker was in a good position to create a chance. Clumsy by Adam, maybe, rather than deliberate, but a booking non-the-less.

Suarez needs to calm down too, or he’s likely to get a poor reputation and see red, but Dalgleish needs to take some of the blame, since he doesn’t seem to understand the rules of the game, thinks everyone is against his team, and is sending signals to his players that they are being victimised, when, in this case, they were simply not good enough to cope with Spurs’ pace and endeavour on the day.

    Rubbish.
Watch it with the blinkers off.
Adam looks up and sees Parker coming towards him to challenge for the ball.
This is after he has raised his leg.
He could have pulled out of a clearly dangerous challenge.
    He didn’t.
    A clear yellow card.
As he had already been given an equally clear yellow card, he had to walk.
    Get over it.

  • Sean says:

p.s. Saurez ‘should’ have been red carded for deliberately catching parker in the throat, as well.

  • SimYid says:

He’s a dirty twat and deserves everything he gets. Good at dead balls but other that that, shit

  • David says:

    Just a thug.

  • TTID says:

Come off it! He clearly looks at Parker at the last second and could easily have got his boot down but it isnt in his nature. He refuses to pull out and gets a deserved yellow. As another poster points out, he did EXACTLY the same to Bale last season but even leaving history out of it, he knew what he was doing and was punished. Full stop.

  • SuaRed says:

You deserved everything you got there!

Stop writing rubbish like this and the nube’s from other football teams responding will leave you alone…jeeezzz!

  • Adam says:

If he was looking at the ball he has no excuse for missing it and connecting with Parker. Was probably not deliberate (that would have bee a straight red) but it was careless/reckless and therefore deserving of (second) yellow

  • jay says:

Deluded beyond belief. All 4 yellow cards that were given for the sending off’s were correct. The only thing the ref did wrong was in liverpools favour and that was giving free kicks for suarez diving! Adam came in with a high foot and if you watch it back there is a moment where he spots parker and has enough time to pull his foot back but doesn’t. Not only that but it was a stupid challenge to attempt when your already on a yellow card. I’m sorry but the author of this clearly doesn’t know what he is talking about. Even Phil Thompson said they were all bookings and the sending offs were justified! Now that’s saying something! Learn to take defeat graciously!

He is a dirty thug no place in football for players like him,he could of ended Bales career last season,he got his just deserts this time round! Up the mighty Spurs!!!!!!!
