The bitter reality for Liverpool fans:

BANG! Liverpool fans fell with back to earth with a sickening crash following the 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Spurs. Losing to Totenham was not that surprising, after all Liverpool had lost on their last three visits to the lane. No, it was the manner of the defeat which will hurt and shock the Scouse faithful. It was a comprehensive drubbing, and the most humiliating aspect was the sendings off made no difference to the result. This was a performance as bad as anything under Roy Hodgson, and that is saying something.

From the outset, Spurs were hungrier, quicker, sharper and simply better than their counterparts. A few weeks ago we said Liverpool had a plethora of options in midfield, yet against Spurs they were comprehensively outclassed by Parker and in particular Modric. The little Croatian pulled the strings, and the red shirts never got close to him. You could be forgiven for thinking Henderson never played yesterday. The decision to let Mereilles go was questionable to say the least, a few more performances like this and it will look like a costly mistake.

Adam is fantastic when he gets on the ball and has time and space to express his excellent passing range. But Spurs closed him down and consequently his lack of discipline cost him a red card. The Scotsman`s weakness is without the ball, that is why Henderson`s energy should have been useful. Unfortunately the youngster never got to grips with the game.

Henderson was poor but the award for flop of the game went to Skrtel. The Slovakian was terrorised by Bale throughout, though in fairness he was offered little protection. His red card had a feeling of inevitably about it from the moment he was booked.

It may seem like blasphemy for a Liverpool fan to criticise Dalglish but his decision to start Carrol instead of Kuyt was mystifying. The Dutchman was the perfect candidate to help Skrtel against the threat of Bale, and his industry is always useful in attack.

Dalglish obviously has faith in Carroll and the fact he is a good player is incontrovertible, but he looks a million miles off match fitness. Yes he needs playing to time to regain it, but the teams greater interests must not be sacrificed just for him. There is also a widespread view that he is hardly straining himself off the pitch to get back into shape, particularly if rumours off his hedonistic lifestyle are to be believed.

The reds have gone to the Brittania and to the Lane, two grounds where they have struggled recently and lost again. Against Stoke they were unlucky, yesterday they were anything but. Liverpool fans will now accept their team has made progress but not as much as they would like. In this writers view they are still marginal favourites to clinch the final champions league spot, but make no mistake this it will be a long a and hard fought slog to get there.

Liverpool fans will want to write off yesterday as a bad day at the office, but the next few results will determine the extent of the damage. Days where everything goes wrong for the Reds are rare and they have played well in every other game so far, so it`s too early to panic. However they have injuries and suspensions to deal with in addition to low morale. The next few weeks will be testing for King Kenny.

Chaitanya, support with your heart and write with inteligents if you would like me and fellow genuine Liverpool supporters to read your column. I am so disappointed in your lack of faith and support. Why don’t you write for ManU and we will know not to read anything from you

    • Jit says:

It’s one thing supporting, and one thing being stupid. I’m a liverpool fan, and even I know we didn’t deserve to win. You don’t have to be a genuine supporter to know when your team plays badly. Stop living in your little dream world and face the facts, Liverpool were rubbish on the day.

  • chris says:

what are you on about mate, the sendings off had no effect on the score did you even watch the match its a hard away game and it was only 1-0 whwn we lost are first, there first goal was just lucky if not modric would do that every week but he doesnt( not slating him he is a world class player) but if that had of gone over like 90% of his shots from that area of the pitch liverpools men wouldnt of lost the game plan and then had people sent off leading to the following goals spurs have an average team with a few exceptional players one of which is modric whos going in january and adebyor wholl leave at the end of seasson youve got nothing to look foward to, liverpool are still geling and well see what hapens later in the seasson when they come to anfield, and at the end of the season when we finish in our rightful place above them..

    • Dr John says:

hahaha… stupid post on so many levels!! “rightful place above them” no team has a right to finish above any other team.. whos finished higher in the last 2 seasons? “modric is going in january” really? you most know more than D Levy then cos last i heard he was not for sale and Spurs rejected 40 milion for him (unlike lpool spurs dont crumble when cavski come knocking).. “spurs have an average team” dont think so some how, Liverpool have an average team and were totally outclassed by a far superior outfit! Now take your blinkers off and realise Daglish is a has been who has blew 100 million on mid table dross and you wont finish close to a much better and stronger Spurs team AGAIN!! FACT

      • chris says:

what are you on about wont finish close to spurs again, im sure it came down to the last two games if not the last game against spurs, modric will throw a transfer request in in january and D levy will be powerless, just like us with torres we knocked them back many a time before he threw his transfer request in and we were powerless contracts mean nothing theese days, and ill be the first to admit we didnt strenthen in the right areas in the summer which should of seen a whole new back four, but are you saying adam, downing and henderson are mid table dross what ever, we’ll see whose mid table dross towards the end of the season. modric goal only happened because he had no one to pass to and took a wild one and it paid off then we got adam sent off and then skirtel during which time we had a goal disallowed (was offside) and suarez was fowled then given a yellow for mentioning it and it was only when we had 20% less off the pitch covered than spurs that they really dominated it was jus an unlucky game for us, doesnt come down to a great spurs team that couldnt slot one past man utd and got five put past them at home with 11 men against man city, how superior you are mate?

    • Blue Tuatara says:

Ha what are you smoking mate ….. You are completely delusional …..

      And I’m a neutral

Wow’ I hope you can handle the reality of the fact that the pool are still a season or two away from getting back to ware you want to be …. And tie note mate’ no team has a god given right to finish above another

      Results don’t lie

      • chris says:

ive been on the cheese mate, am not sayin we have a god given right im saying our rightfull place which is above spurs because i feel were a better team not because god should reserve that place for us, and i know were a couple of seasons of challenging for the title but if it werent for hodgson last seasson we’d of finished above spurs not jus a couple of point behind them, the only one team to do better than us from chrismas last seasson was chelsea if we’d done that all season wed of been in the top three not being dellusional just stating facts mate!!

  • Pete says:

I’ve been watching us catch a few against you guys for years so it’s nice to have the boot on the other foot. Have to say that was the poorest Liverpool performance I’ve seen for a good while. Kenny got it tactically wrong and I’m not convinced your new players are top four performers. Things started to go downhill for you when you lost Xabi Alonso, though you do have some class performers in your ranks. I’m sure Dalglish will get it right eventually, but more showings like this and it’ll be a long hard season for you.

  • Roy Singh says:

Respecting any team in the EPL is of utmost importance. Only after you have beaten them, fans can vent their critisism. I did enjoy this victory, especially for the likes of Joe Cole & Suarez who opted to join Liv. rather than Spurs

  • nonfickle says:

love the comment from chris in the town of Delusion.”if that had of gone over ” If.If my Aunty had balls she’d be my Uncle. I think a focus on Liverpool and a sensible analysis would be more mature than a bitter, Modric will be off and so will Adeboyer, might. My 6year old grandson whistyles in the dark to show he’s not afraid. Seems like there is a football fan’s equivalent. Get over it. You lost four nil to a better team. Yopur manager acknowledged it and didn’t look for childish excuses. He is a credit to the club but is undermined by deluded poor losers. Man up.

    • chris says:

why is it childish to state facts like modrics shot, it was the only option for him and it paid off but 9 times out of ten it wouldnt of thats a fact, going behind away from home is always hard to deal with and adam lost his head and with a player down skirtel fell to the prssure aswell and couldnt handle bale it was only then that we were totally over run all i was saying is we were unlucky to concede that goal after just six minutes and wouldve been a completly different out come 9 out of ten times hows that dellusional mate, and you need to man up i was just saying our season aint over because we got beat by a team that got lucky on the day, i was on about the article staing coz we had a bad day that this is the bitter reality for liverpool when it simply isnt.

  • cyril says:

adams is a slight more polished version of andy reid, strikes to ball better (“a better educated boot”) but he has the same failing, chubby and slow. ok, i am sure he did not set out to hurt parker, just like he did not set out to break bale’s ankle in the spring when he came to the lane with the other ‘pool; but he did and he did it because he is a fat bugger who is slow. and frankly, i dont think he needs to intend to hurt to be criticised, just being very negligent does it for me. i did not like to see bale run over to remonstrate with the ref but that is the background that liverpool fans might not recall.

  • RoyK says:

1 ques….can anyone tell me y didn’t v play a 5-3-2 or a 3-5-2 (depending on the way u look at it). Tht way v cud hv played Skrtel, Carra n Agger as centre backs (there by offering more protection against Bale), Flanno n Enrique as full backs, Lucas, Adam n Downing in a narrow midfield (with Downing drifting out), n Suarez n Carroll/ Kuyt as the forwards. Atleast v wud hav negated their midfield!

  • Essexian76 says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to recall a certain Liverpool manager a while back buying a whole load of rubbish, players like David Speedie, Jimmy Carter and some others long forgotten. Then after ruining his inherited team and filling their places with said crud, walking out on them, leaving A.N.Other to clean up the stench this guy left behind, in fact Liverpool never really recovered from his failings..whatever was his name?
