Could this Spurs old-boy do the job for Arsenal come January?

I had the pleasure of watching the 0-0 draw between QPR and Newcastle and although all eyes were placed upon Joey Barton, who was facing the club he left just two weeks ago, there was another man who stood out. Much was said about Adel Taarabt’s future during the Summer transfer window. There were rumours that he’d be off to join French financial powerhouse PSG, but no move ever materialised. Having seen him in action in the Championship and now in the Premier League, I can’t help but wonder if he could do a job for Arsenal in the centre of midfield.

He has numerous attributes becoming of an Arsenal player: He has got excellent technical ability,  creates space for himself easily on the ball (in a manner befitting of the way that Fabregas was able to do so) is a creative player and doesn’t seem to give the ball away. At the moment you can’t help but feel that he’d be an improvement on the likes of Abou Diaby and even Aaron Ramsey, who hasn’t quite performed thus far this season.

What’s more he refuses to play International football, so wont be joining the Moroccan side for the African Cup of Nations.

If Arsenal push hard they may well get another bargain in the same league as their £10m signing of Mikel Arteta. I’d expect Taarabt to be slightly more expensive and although he’s probably not as good as Arteta yet, he still has plenty of developing to do.

Arsenal fans may well sniff at such a signing. He is a former Spurs man (though when he left Tottenham, he did confess that he wished he had joined Arsenal) and he has a reputation for being somewhat hard to handle.

At the right club however, you can’t help but feel that Taarabt would be able to kick-on, become more of a team player and finally settle down. Arsene Wenger has a reputation for handling the development of young players with some grace and though Taraabt would surely be a big test, I’m sure he’d be able to cope.

He may not be up there with Cesc Fabregas, but having two creative spirits in the likes of Mikel Arteta and Adel Taarabt in their squad would certainly give Arsenal more cut and thrust. The Gunners have defensive solidarity in the shape of Emmanuel Frimpong and Alex Song, but recent games have shown them lacking in invention.

Could QPR’s midfield dynamo Adel Taarabt be the answer?

Why would he join a selling club that are not likely to win anything?

You can link Taarabt all day long with clubs but do you honestly reckon Wenger could handle his temperment? Hes a hand full at the best of times and warnock pulls out the stops to keep him happy. The people who write these articles forget what Taarabts like…

  • Dom says:

not that we would want Taraabt. Thanks, but no thanks.

Taarabt is a great player. Would have been awesome if Spurs could have kept him. Now Spurs have Ceballos. Let’s hope they don’t let him go as well.
