With a positive start for himself this season, debuting in the spanish national team and everything, it would seem life is proceeding quite nicely for Thiago. But being a Canterano player, a player that is homegrown he unsurprisingly harbours feelings of disgust for their rivals, Real Madrid. We all know by now that Madrid lost against Levante 1-0, and that Sami Khedira got a red card in that match, so the talk recently has focused on Mourinho and the La Liga’s referees, a naggling problem since day one. Thiago also has a point of view:
“I dont know what´s going on in the capital city of Spain (Madrid) because I live in Barcelona. The referees are the only ones that can judge a game. It´s a lie that this League only consists of two teams because all the teams want to win. It has never been about only two teams and will never be”
To respond to the first thing he’s saying I don’t think Mourinho will agree with him. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid always complain to the referee when things dont go their way. One existing problem in La Liga is the quality of the referees. They just dont stand up to the standards set.
On the contrary, I would agree with Alcántara when it comes down to how many good teams there are in La Liga. Sure, Real Madrid and Barcelona are skyhigh favourites for the title each year and formally in the end it stands between these two. But we have in later years seen a re-emergence of teams like Villarreal, Sevilla, Atlético Madrid and not to forget Valencia. And we have Málaga who are widely regarded as the new Man City, because they have a extremely rich owner. Of course, Thiago doesn’t need to wonder if he is at the best club in the League, since he obviously is.
In all honesty I do not think anybody else than the big two can win it, even this year. But there will surely be plenty of upsets from teams lower down the table.
