How many more chances can Arsenal afford Arsene Wenger?

With the season now under way there is still a lot of uncertainty remaining at Arsenal. Having had a turbulent summer, with their best players constantly linked with moves away from the club, the fans are appearing to grow weary with Arsene Wenger’s reign at the club. Is this season his last chance to get it right?

What Wenger has done for the club cannot be underestimated, he guided them to trophy’s, saw through the period of ‘the invincibles’, and he has got them into the Champions League every year, playing great, entertaining football. He has always had the best interests of the club at heart, and has taken them through a transitional period, during which their new stadium was being built, and he had very little in the way of a budget to work with. It is highly unlikely that anyone else would have done any better during that period. However, it is now six years since Arsenal won a trophy, and it appears time and patience are wearing thin for Wenger. He has set such high standards that now Arsenal fans are impatient for results and trophy’s, and are growing tired of being told the same things year in, year out.

For the last few seasons, Wenger seems to have repeated the same mistakes year on year, leaving Arsenal stuck in a vicious cycle. They lose their best players, we are told they have excellent youngsters coming through who just need time, they can’t quite make it over the finishing line each season and the process starts again. This season is no exception with the loss now of Fabregas and probably Nasri as well. Wenger does not seem to have made the right moves in the close season, and seemingly refuses to bolster the squad, despite the losses. Season afer season Wenger is coming up the same old excuses, predictions and blind stubborn faith which has seen Arsenal unable to progress any further.

Players who were part of Arsenal’s long term plans in the past are now moving on, with nothing to show for it, they are jumping ship having lost faith in Wenger and his stubborn refusal to change things, including tactics and his moves in the transfer market. He has not adapted to change or evolved the team with the modern times, his refusal to strengthen the team and the gaps in the side with hardened winners is somewhat astounding. The signature of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer when the side desperately needs strengthening in other areas to sort out its frailty’s, is baffling. If they don’t strengthen in what is left of the transfer window, they will have to be incredibly careful, if they aren’t to slip out of the top four this year, with sides around them strengthening and them seemingly getting weaker.

Wenger has earned the right for one more chance, one last season to rediscover his ability to lead a team to success, and correct the mistakes within the team. He has stood still for too long, unwilling to change things, and he must strengthen in the remainder of the summer to add what they need to win, otherwise they will remain static or even move backwards. It remains to be seen if Wenger can take Arsenal any further, he still has a lot to offer, but time is running thin, and it appears he may be at the last chance saloon.

AGAIN? Geez, young fans fans panic like a whale upstream.

    Wenger is fine.
There are three types of football teams.
    a) Owned by rich benefactors – Russian ex-gangsters and the Middle East Investment Groups (ahem ..governments)
    b) Those on high wages and on the verge of BANKRUPTCY. Example all of La Liga. La Liga is about to crumble like the government of Greece.

English teams are bleeding red like a gutted pig. The banks are keeping them afloat; BARELY.

Then there is Arsenal. Run like a business, for PROFIT, making a PROFIT, not paying exorbitant wages and still one of the BEST clubs in the world.

The Board loves Wenger, he keeps the banks accounts BLACK and their mistresses in furs.
The real Arsenal fans love Wenger.

The young sausage eating, cheap beer drinking, loud mouth, post any nonsense on a blog, fair weather fans are like bleating sheep. Arsenal will start winning and you will post that you ALWAYS had faith in Wenger.

In 20 years I have NOT wavered in my support of the Arsenal. Don’t second guess the Professor.
You all lack the skill, knowledge and financial acumen to make such judgments.

    Hi Idiot,

If You are so smart, why don’t u take over the transfer of players At Arsenal?

There are a lot of factors towards buying players. Clubs like Chelsea and Manc City will promise players the moon but Arsenal cannot. Agent fees are paid by buyer and the ridiculous contract they asked for.

The Board don’t seem interested in winning trophies anymore only that they reach the CL year in year out & pocketing the revenue, but not ploughing it back into the team. It’s about time PHW retired and a younger Chairman brought in who might actually have some clout in the Boardroom. As for the shareholders when was the last time they actually sat in amongst the fans or actually attended a game? We need funds now before the end of this coming transfer window shuts so we can at least challenge our rivals for players instead of being left with the dregs as we have for the past few seaons.

If the gunners are eliminated by Udinese, what next?Of course if they can get a result at Udinese, they might delay things before the storm breaks out. With MU looming next it’s all to play for.
The thing is Wenger is unwilling to change policy and will pay the price especially if the gunners are on a downward spiral. No one ,not even the ref faced is is indispensable. All managers are judged by results and winning games is top priority over anything else. The moment the winning stops, even the red faced will be axed.

AW is not the problem at the club. The board is. They have a policy to maximise their profits year on year, in doing this they are playing fast and lose with the fans. In Wenger they have found a devotee with the zeal of a religious nut to implement it. I am sure that if the board are interested in a change of direction Wenger will follow suit.

    Arsenalusa good comment.
In my opinion from a fans perspective the champions league only throws up one or two really exciting games(latter stages) for Arsenal a season and considering the opposition i dont think we can win it right now anyway, so as much as id like to compete in it i wont be slitting my wrists if we get knocked out on wednesday.
I’d even take a fairly bad start to the season if it meant the youngsters could gain some experience and come on strong for the end of the season and set themselves up for a crack at the title next year.
So much potential in the team Wilshire,Frimpong,Vermaelan,Kosielney,Ramsey,Sezney,Sagna
the makings of a top team Who else would you choose to bring them thru than Wenger.
Some fans are idiots i’ve had a season ticket since i was eight im thirty nine definate increase in idiots since the ground move i know ive seen them, impatient and ill informed by the incredibly bad english press.
Should these idiots get their way and hound out Wenger it would be a black day in our history and would be years before we would challenge for anything again.
I think well be alright this year.
stop your moaning and support this club cos that is what we need right now.

Thank You(lovemyclub). The first five games will test Arsenal, then the team will come together. I expect the team to work it way out the bottom of the table into number 4 by December and top three by March.

I see Frimpong and Vermaelen becoming the “Anchors of Arsenal”.
Notice when Frimpong was in front the back four Liverpool had NOTHING. Vermaelen became the real Captain of the team yesterday.

All hail Frimpong, All hail Vaermalen.

PS** La Liga will be in bankruptcy by January. Wenger get can any Spanish player then.

Fans growing impatient – I would’ve said that 6 years yrs does in fact show great patience but that has now run out & quite rightly too, unless we’d be mugs!

  • Bernard says:

Why is a Spanish website so interested in Arsenal all the time. Take your dooming and shove it up your arses.

  • The Cabbie says:

By selling Cesc AW will pay off another chunk of the stadium debt. The board will be happy so why will they get rid of the golden goose
