How Far Can West Brom Realistically Go?

|

They have also made some other sensible acquisitions, Zoltan Gera will be able to offer plenty, especially since he didn’t cost them a penny.  Their squad on paper is not full of particularly huge amounts of flair, but players such as Somen Tchoyi, Youssuf Mulumbu and Graham Dorrans all provide quality, and Scot Chris Brunt is also capable of providing plenty of ammunition for the sides forwards.

Their biggest asset is manager Hodgson, who is a bit of a genius at that level, their players are good and very solid but I am not so sure it is time for them to push on to a higher level.  In my opinion consolidation is the key this season for West Brom, another year safely in midtable and then they might be capable of attracting even better players.  The next aim for the club will be to push for Europa League action, a tournament Hodgson knows all about from Fulham.

In fact the London club could be the template for what he may want to achieve in the Midlands.  In the years to come I see no reason why West Brom can’t push on to fight for places between 9th and 6th.  An improvement of just 2 or 3 places may not sound like much but in reality it is a huge jump and not one that I think the club are ready for quite yet.

I see no reason why last year can’t be replicated at the Hawthorns, and with another year of consolidation there is a clear foundation to be built upon and they have everything in place to press on over the next 3 or 4 years.

I am a huge Manchester City fan, but also a fan of football as a game. I like to watch games at all levels, from Blue Square Premier, right up to the Premier League where I have a season ticket at City. I really enjoy writing for This Is Futbol because it allows me to give my thoughts on the very latest pieces of football news. I also run thoughtsfromtheinvisibleman.blogspot.com for all things Manchester City.

Whilst you obviously see yourself as an authority on the fortunes of various football clubs, you should note that Chris Brunt is Northern Irish. Other than that your post makes interesting reading.
