Why are Arsenal lagging so far behind in the transfer market?

With the list of players who are ‘being allowed to leave’ in the public domain and the list of possible departures growing daily, Arsenal are in the POSSIBLE position of losing:

Nicklas Bendtner – anywhere big enough for his ego

Denilson – anywhere

Cesc Fabregas – Barca, its going to happen – let’s sort it and move on

Samir Nasri – Brand United.

Not too mention that Gael Clichy had already departed from the Emirates and set sail for Manchester City. That’s five first-team players, three of our starting eleven, who need replacing BEFORE we look at improving the squad.

Arsene Wenger isn’t the most proactive in the transfer market at the best of times and the potential loss of Cesc, Samir, and others exasperates the problem, because without world class replacements, their departures seriously weaken the team.

To get to where the fans expect us to be next season, we are potentially looking at eight new players to come in! (five replacements and three improvements).

With Jenkinson the only definite, and the signings of Gervinho and Alvarez (who now looks to be on his way to Inter Milan) yet to be confirmed, at best, we are still looking for five more players – a centre-back, a defensive and attacking midfielder, a left-back and a striker.

Wenger and Ivan are going to be on the phone a lot from the Asian Tour bus.

I seriously doubt our boss will bring in that many players because:

1. When has Wenger brought that many players before?

2. We don’t seem to be very quick at negotiating since David Dein left, so there’s no way we would get another seven transfers done by September!

3. Eight is a hell of a lot of players to integrate in one go!

To be blunt, I really can’t see this happening.

Let’s hope that the speculation is just that, and that things don’t turn out as bad as they could. Because, If we end up not fully replacing what’s been sold and not buying enough to catch up Manure, Chelski and Citeh, then we will be behind on both counts and in that scenario ‘two negatives don’t make a positive.’

my take is the current arsenal board are too old fashioned in their dealing and just don’t have the charisma to bring in quality players as they are all too happy to let Wenger take all the flack for being tight with the purse strings

Did it ever occur to you that all the negative spin to all things Arsenal could be the press trying to sell news during the dull summer period? By how far is Arsenal behind when only few teams have made more than one signing so far? Indeed, at a point, we were first to have any signing and Chelsea and City have only signed a manager and our Gael, respectively. United’s 3 signings are mere replacements of retiring or aged players, at best. Take a look again and approach the situation with some perspective.

Well said GoonerEris but for some reason we do seem to make a pigs ear of all of our negotiations but i suspect this is down to Arsene looking to save money and bid to low but this of course backfires when a club step in and offer proper money, Alvarez is a classic example, a player we have been watching for months and then lose out to Milan over 1.7 mil. I am sure that the phone line is red hot in Arsene’s office but very little seems to be happening. The media seem to always target Arsenal but I am sure that the nessessary signings will happen if needed of course, Cesc and Nasri will stay if a few quality players are signed up in the next week or so.

Arsenal wont win the title with Wenger in charge. His reluctance to spend and his anti doping is a cause for worry. If he doesn’t bring in the quality players and relies on youth, who have been given countless chances, what hope is there for the gunners?
While he is dilly dallying ,others have already bought their players to integrate into the team. Btw dont be surprised he doesn’t bring in anyone. Then if the gunners continue to struggle,he should be axed with immediate effect.

IF ARSENAL DON’T GET RID OF WENGER,I FEAR THE WORST,HE’S LOST IT.
