Should Tottenham hijack this transfer away from Arsenal?

Whilst there hasn’t exactly been a glut of transfer stories concerning Arsenal, one man they have been heavily linked with is Lille’s striker/winger Gervinho. Whilst he looks likely to end up at Arsenal, The Sun recently ran an article that suggested Tottenham were interested in acquiring the Ivorian with a Brazilian sounding name and that they might be willing to duke it out with the gunners for his services.

Whilst no official deal has been announced, Gervinho himself has claimed that he’s ‘going to Arsenal to play’. Yet The Sun reports that Arsenal’s most recent £7.2m bid was turned down by Lille. With Arsenal also interested in Velez’s Ricky Alvarez and Southampton’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain there’s no guarantee that a move will ever be finalised.

With things still somewhat up in the air should Tottenham continue to show interest in Gervinho, or leave him for the red side of North London?

Gervinho is a tough footballer who would add some physicality to Tottenham’s frontline. There’s a lot to be said for his competitive nature as he ceaselessly hounds down every ball launched in the direction of the opponent’s penalty area. But he’s much more than a mere workman in the vein of Dirk Kuyt. He’s got fantastic pace, can beat defenders and is also a finisher of some renown.

What’s more, he racked up a decent number of assists last season: evidence that suggests he’s a good team player and a man who could kick the Spurs forward line into gear.

In short, Gervinho looks ready to make the jump from the Ligue 1 to the Premier League and would you honestly rather see him make the transition with Arsenal? Here’s a quality player who is sure to prove himself in the League next season and given Tottenham’s need for a striker, I hope that Harry Redknapp steps up his interest in the Ivorian.

What’s the worst that could happen? Even if a Spurs bid fails and the player in question has his heart set on moving to Arsenal, a bid may well succeed in raising Gervinho’s worth forcing the Gunners to part with a few more pennies. If a bid succeeds then Tottenham will end up with a quality player on their hands and a man who can provide his team with goals. Seems to me to be a win-win situation.

I think Wenger Arsene is mad and crazy. All hope to keep the faith is dead. Next season for sure we are off to relegation, nothing can stop us, except that stingy Wenger of an animal turn up himself and but in this transfer market. We’re doom if wenger doesn’t buy.
