Is this Liverpool’s Formation for next Season?

|

Looking at the players walking through the gates at Anfield this summer, and the players who are already there, it looks quite possible that the picture to the left lays out the formation that Dalglish has in mind for next season.

We all know that it’s not though. Those of us who saw Liverpool last year, particularly prior to when Dalglish was hired, know that there was a somewhat lack of creativity in the Liverpool midfield – both in the centre of the pitch and on the wings. Two exceedingly decisive positions if the Merseyside club is to fulfil the potential of the outstandingly exciting partnership that is Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.

Carroll in particularly, is a striker who very much relies  on distribution from wingers and midfielders in order to deliver up to his maximum potential. In Newcastle, before his transfer to Liverpool, he was flourishing while Joey Barton served him cross after cross, a recipe Liverpool look to be wanting to copy – without Joey Barton though. There is, however, more than one good waiter in the Premier League.

The club who look interested in winning the Premier League for the first time in quite a while, under the guidance of Kenny Dalglish, have certainly taken this into consideration, purchasing some of the best distributers of passes and crosses in the country. First came the enormously exciting prospect that is Jordan Henderson, before Charlie Adam and his exceptional left foot strolled in through the gates. One of Blackpool’s most effective ways of attacking last season was in fact an Adam diagonal cross towards the wingers.

With Downing also in tow, Liverpool have a range of potent weapons to use against their opponents.

Obviously the red side  of Merseyside have got a decent amount of midfielders already, but now I solemnly believe that with Adam, Gerrard and possibly also Lucas or Meireles they finally have the distribution to the wingers they have been looking for and lacking for a long time. They also now have wingers with pace and the ability to actually hit a couple of decent crosses. Crosses which can and most certainly will, land on the head or at the feet belonging to what can potentially become Premier Leagues most dangerous striker combination; Suarez and Carroll.

So to answer the question above; no, Liverpool will not play with eight midfielders. They have had the luxurious advantage of not having to sell any players before bringing in new faces. This is, according to Dalglish however, not the case anymore: “We’re delighted with the work we’ve done, whether there is more to come remains to be seen and depends on players going out”, he told SkySports. It can quite easily look like Dalglish has every reason to be delighted with the work Liverpool have already done. If he can make the various combinations with the new signings work, I think the Merseyside club will be utterly entertaining to watch this upcoming season.

I’m not ruling out any more signings but as it stands, this formation I believe would be the best with players rotating {injuries/bad form/tactic change}. Not saying this will be the formation, just a formation which sprung to mind and thought i’d share it.

    Carroll

    Downing Gerrard Suarez

    Lucas

    Adam Johnson

    Agger Carra Kelly

    Reina

I predict KK will use a variety of formations. However, I would like to say, that when KK used 3-4-2-1 (or something like that) against chelsea, we looked really solid. I hope LFC plays like that through the season. 4-4-2 allows attacking verve but I prefer solidity, good for preventing heart attacks 🙂 also, on a different issue if i may, I hope LFC takes “up” the tempo right from the start as we dont have euro distractions, we can put all our eggs to the premier league, no holding back and please treat smaller teams seriously from now on…CMON LFC!!!!
