Six title candidates for the 2011-12 Premier League

|

With the 2010-11 season finishing just weeks ago, many top clubs are already delving into the transfer market, and with SIX possible contenders for next years title, the 2011-12 campaign is already looking a mouth-watering prospect.

Top three finisher’s, Man United, Chelsea and Man City, will again be expected to lay down serious challenges, however, slight underdogs Arsenal,  Spurs and Liverpool, will also have their sights set on the top spot, and with the race for first becoming closer every season, it would be foolish to rule out any.

Last season saw current EPL champions Manchester United deservedly go on to record a magnificent 19th League title, the most of any English club and a truly monumental achievement. This year, however, they will be trying to emulate that success without two of their most influential players, legendary goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and world class central midfielder Paul Scholes, who both recently announced retirements from the game. This, in my opinion, could prove a crucial factor in the forthcoming title race and althought the ‘Red Devils’ have agreed a deal to sign spanish side Athletico Madrids hot goalkeeping prospect David de Gea, many fans will be questioning whether the 21 year old is really ready to fill the boots of  his predecessor.

Last years main rivals Chelsea and Man City will no doubt be seen as the major threat’s to Uniteds title once again, with billionaire owners Roman Abramovich (Chelsea) and Sheik Mansour (City) both expected to invest heavily in the transfer window, bringing in even more world-class talent of their own, and although many fan’s in England have been known to make the suggestion that money can’t buy success, I would make the case that City’s recent FA Cup win proves in England, it can. In my opinion, ‘The Citizens’ are also the most dangerous of these two and they are most certainly my choice to become champions next season. With Yaya Toure excellling brlliantly at the end of last season, and with reason to believe key striker Carlos Tevez shall now be staying at the club, the future is looking very bright at the City of Manchester stadium.

An extremely dangerous mistake to make, however, would be to overlook potentially brilliant campaign’s from Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool, who in my opinion, are all only one or two key signings away from a title charge of their own, and with the transfer window still in a very early stage, who know’s what will happen? Of the tree, Liverpool have already shown a willingness to spend big this summer, bringing in youngster Jordan Henderson from Sunderland for a reported fee of £20million, as well as being linked with numerous other player’s across the globe.

All in all the 2011-12 capaign looks like being a great one, but who do you see coming out on top?

If sorry you are disappointed with the article, however, this piece was simply created so that fans could comment, expressing their own personal opinions on how the league would pan out and on who would emerge victorious. Although it does actually state my opinion on who shall become EPL champions.
