Has greed taken hold at Arsenal or something else?

Few Arsenal fans would disagree that Samir Nasri is a very important player and not one that Arsenal will want to lose – especially if Fabregas departs in the summer. However, there is a real danger of this happening, after problems with the contract offer Arsenal have made to the Frenchman. The stumbling block seems to be a pure financial one and is about the fact that Nasri wants to match the £110,000 per week wages that Fabregas receives. The offer that has been made is generous to say the least; a five year deal with wages of £90,000 per week. Arsenal will be forced to sell this summer if Nasri refuses to sign, because they don’t wish to risk losing him for nothing at the end of next season.

One wonders if perhaps Nasri’s head has been turned by comments that were recently made by Manchester United defender Patrice Evra. Evra suggested that Nasri should move to Manchester United in order to win the trophies he obviously desires. But as far as Arsene Wenger is concerned this dispute is a financial one. Wenger told French radio “We have a financial disagreement which hasn’t yet been settled. We are still in discussions but we haven’t agreed a deal.”

The interest from Manchester United is clear, but Wenger is determined to not sell the France international to his fierce rivals; stating that “One thing’s for sure , we’re not selling him to United.” Certainly interesting developments, but shouldn’t Arsenal expect more loyalty from the player. Nasri is still only 23 and Arsenal has given him the opportunity to play in arguably the World’s best league. Nasri arrived at Arsenal in the summer of 2008 for a fee in the region of £12m and the club would have thought that could have a player here for many years at the highest level.

At the time of his transfer Nasri seemed pleased to be moving to Arsenal and in particular excited to be working with Arsene Wenger. Nasri Said “The fact that Arsene Wenger gives great opportunities to young players is very important to me. Arsene has a great reputation and is one of the best managers in the world.”

However, something seems to have changed and it appears that Nasri is only prepared to continue to work with Wenger – if he is given a huge contract. But with the comments from Evra recently, we have to consider the situation may not purely financial and really he just wants to win trophies and no longer believes that will happen at Arsenal. But it seems that he is unlikely to get his wish with Arsenal so determined not to sell to United – so expect him to sign that contract soon.

Who cares where he ends up, he’s played his last game for Arsenal hopefully so let’s hope Wenger sells him to either a French, Italian or Spanish club and gets enough money to buy someone who would actually like to play for Arsenal and give their all.

You are a clueless hack. How do you know how much Nasri is after and what Arsenal have offered? To say it is greed is pathetic when one considers how Rooney held United to ransom and stted he was never going to play for them again unless he got a massive wage hike.

dean you are following this issue.Arsenal has offered him 90k but he wants 110k.You are talking about Rooney held the mancs to ranson but at least he has paid back the dividen,he has their best player bagging goals week in week out.Not like Nasri being the best player for 3 months only and then faded out. From Hero to Zero.He is a one season wonder that’s all.Next season he will be scrap beleive me.Have you watch the french match yesterday. He was nowhere on the pitch.Zero contribution and he was supposed to be the playmaker.my foot.I hate NASRI,I will be the happiest man if he leaves.Bloody greedy, dishonest, disloyal and hypocrite little arab bastard

Dont be so naive. Nasri is simply being coy and on committal as all players are when negotiating a new deal.

You will see from the interview below that Nasri isn’t just being coy http://videos.tf1.fr/telefoot/blanc-et- … 18041.html It is the original interview in French but you should be able to make out that he is saying that they have to establish whether the interest from ManU is concrete. The same interview is being reported wider in the press (for those with no French). I think it’s brinkmanship on his part however considering they are our close rivals I don;t think fuelling this kind of speculation will help but alienate him and make it more likely that he will leave.

Get rid of him he’s starting to piss me off. Rooney deserved his pay rise after the work he puts in each year. Nasri has had a few good months and wants the same as cesc he’s got alot of work to do to get to his standard of last year coz this year his heart hasn’t been in it. Get players who fight in derby games specially against spurs no foreign player knows the meaning of our rivalry

  • Eddie says:

I like him but he just had a few months world class performance this season. He can be greed. It can be understandable. However, it is a real hurt for the club and fans about his publication for interested in moving to MANU. Even he really has the intention, I don’t think his should open to public. If this report is real, i would rather he leave to else league in a reasonable fund to build the team has heart for the club

  • Kevvy says:

Nasri plays well when the team are playing well, but has gone missing when we needed him to step up to the palte last year when Cesc got injured, and fell away this year when things got tough. I dont think he is worth £110k a week and we should get shot if he doesn’t want to stay. Dont know why eh would want to go to Man Utd, he probably wouldnt get in their team!

  • Stroller says:

He may be playing hard over the financials, but it is disrespectful to fans for him to hint at joining one of their big rivals. Maybe he thinks the fans will pressure the club to meet his demands, but if so he is mistaken. Whether he stays or not he will have lost a lot of respect.
