Are Santos right to hold onto Chelsea target Neymar for another year?

|

South American Watch: NeymarSantos president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro continues with holding on to his stance, surrounding the future of star player Neymar. The president is playing a role for the young “crack”, making sure he makes the right move. Basically what Ribeiro is saying that Neymar is still only 19 years old, and that the player would have no problem with wearing the Santos shirt further, for another year at least.

“I guess there will arrive tempting offers but i have spoken to Neymar several times, and he is focused on becoming the best in the world by playing in Brazil. It would be something pioneeric if he stayed in Brazil and became the best (here). It would change everything”

“When he has finished his current contract, he will 23 years old and already played in the World Cup in Brazil, allowing him to become one of the greatest Brazilian players”

I think Ribeiro is romanticising the brazilian leauge, and this is not the first time he has talked about the leauge in this way. He knows that he is going to lose his starplayer, and the rest of the comments that stream out, about “Neymar can become world´s best right here” are just desperate last attempts, from a president under pressure because Santos have a centenary next season. Look, it doesn’t matter to Real Madrid if they can’t get him this summer, they’ll get him the next after that instead. This has also been reported as being Florentino Peréz plan. For now it seems Agûero is still the mainlead i would guess. In another way, Neymar has been open for a move to Chelsea as well, even though he has stated in the spanish press that his preferred destination is Spain.

Sure, Pele once became the worlds best in Brazil but nowadays you got to play in Europe to win that title. We all know this.
