Is this Newcastle star really good enough for Arsenal?

Jose Enrique off to Liverpool?Arsenal have been linked with Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique over the weekend. It could just be media speculation and yet another rumour flying around the Emirates. However, Toon boss Alan Pardew has expressed his desire to keep the Spaniard at St. James Park next season.

The 25-year-old is yet to accept a new contract offer from the club and is coming into the last year of his existing deal at Newcastle.

Pardew recently told BBC Radio Newcastle:

‘I’m still hopeful that Enrique – who was a big, big, big, big player for us last year – stays at the football club and we can entice him to stay, and obviously we are still working on that. Jose’s holidaying and doesn’t have too much on at the moment, so we are not confident we can keep him, but we are not scared of losing him. It’s somewhere in between, really. When you have only got a year left on a player of his ability, of course you are vulnerable, and I think it’s nervous times for us on him.’

In all honesty, I don’t think Arsenal should even bother with him this summer. There are plenty of other defenders out there for Arsene Wenger to consider, and in my opinion, I don’t believe he has the qualities to play at a club like Arsenal.

Newcastle can rest assured that there is at least one Arsenal fan who doesn’t want either Enrique or Barton at the Emirates next season, that’s for sure.

The Magpies didn’t have a great season last season, we all know it. They finished 12th in the Premier League on a -1 goal difference, which is very poor. The last thing we need is to be signing there cast-offs.

Arsenal should be concentrating on bigger and better players this summer in order for us to break the trophy drought next season.

Do you guys agree? Should Arsenal bother with Enrique this summer?

Good enough for Arsenal?? Well, for a start Enrique is perhaps the best lb in the country and secondly he’s probably better than any current Arsenal defender! So, ahem, yes.

“I don’t believe he has the qualities to play at a club like Arsenal.”

Pfff, the likes of Bendtner, Chamakh, Eboue and Djourou have, have they.
    Riiiigggghhhhttt!

  • You obviously havn’t seen Jose Enrique play!

Please! Please! pass these comments to Arsenal and Liverpool, and yes we will keep this sub standard defender at Newcastle.

    Typical Arsenal Prat.

  • Dave says:

Didn’t have a good season? 12th for a newly promoted club and took 4 points of your bunch of girls. Arsenal however had a terrible season and continued going backwards! Jose Enrique is better than any defender you have at your club but, like you, I hope Arsenal don’t sign him!

  • afs says:

What are you on about you stupid idiot? Coming from a blood red Arsenal fan he’s one of the best left backs in the league and I’d be happy with either him or Baines replacing Clichy if he leaves, your arguments make no sense at all, totally bereft of logic, fuck off.

Maybe its about time arsenal team of chokers signed someone with a pair of bollocks. instead of skinny wimps with no bottle…
to echo a comment earlier you obviously have not seen him play. he is quite outstanding.
this article is sure to piss off many newcastle fans. especially as they had 4 points off you last season.
not a very nice article. 12 place was respectable for a team in transition. narrow minded fool!

  • gazzap says:

You should really have just reported the facts if you dont know how good Enrique is. To look at the finishing position of the club and their goal difference is laughable. Hardly top analysis of the strengths of a player!

  • NUFC Fan says:

Evidently it was an Asrenal Fan who wrote this, but i’d like to point a few things out.

    1) Finishing 12th is far from bad.
    2) A -1 Gd isnt exactly bad either
    3) This article coming from a fan of the club who failed to beat this so called ‘very poor’ performing team last season in the Prem.

You obviously still have the sour taste of a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates and the sour taste of losing a 4-0 advantage to us. Get over it, we beat you. Yes, you’ll probably come back at this saying something along the lines of “We finshed in the top 3” but tbh that makes the fact you failed to beat us even worse on your part and even funnier on ours. It goes to show that the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

i suppose man utd arnt too big to buy a blackburn “cast off”, in my opinion arsenal could challenge with enrique, collocini and either kruhl forster all would improve the team with there composure and enrique strength added with the strenght ao barton would add a spine to arsenal and there passing abilties would compliment arsenal with either of newcastles young keepers having abilities beyond wengers to find a decent keeper.

  • Phil K says:

One of the most moronic pieces I have ever read.
I only wish Enrique reads this and realizes just what he’s possibly letting himself in for, with the drips he’d be playing for.
Better to stay at Newcastle where we can see what a talent he is, and not reckon he musn’t be any good if he doesn’t play for a European cup winning side.
Truly, one of the stupidest pieces of tripe Ive read outside of Mick Dennis or Martin Samuel

  • George McNeil says:

I think he would be an excellent signing for Arsenal.

Danny, sorry mate but in order to win the championship you need to be playing in a lower league than Arsenal, you were relegated from the Prem for being shite so its really nothing to shout about. To have the right to challenge barcelona in the champions league and BEAT them 2-1. Thats where its at. Northern Monkey. ‘won’ not ‘one’.

for the record i’d love to see Enrique at Arsenal, big fan of him. He would easi

  • lanelane says:

Mr. Culverhouse, you don’t have much of a grasp do you. This article is so obviously a bitter swipe at Newcastle. Even your fellow Arsenal fans think your daft. They know Enrique would be a fantastic signing. As for the term “cast off”, as a “writer” you don’t have a firm grasp off the language do you? NUFC have tried to keep him and still are trying. Jose has Champion’s League aspirations which Newcastle cannot satisfy (yet). He has made the decision not to sign the the contract offered to him so that he may decide what he feels is the best move for him. While we Newcastle fans do not want him to go by any means, he is the ultimate decider of his fate. Thus the phrase “cast off” is hardly appropriate. If all Arsenal fans are like you (which from the responses they don’t seem to be), Jose needs to do quite a bit of personal reflection on this potential move.

  • John Reidy says:

What a daft piece of sh1t. Enrique is one of the best left backs I’ve seen in english football. Apart from occasional lapses he is
superb on the ball, a brilliant crosser, very fast, almost impossible to get by for a winger. Quite simply, easily good enough to ply for Barca, not to mind you lonson wimps. Utter class – you just stick with buying feebletons who crack under pressure. Still, you look nice, eh?
