Media Watch: Carlos Tevez on his way out of Manchester City for… £30m?

|

There has been a power shift from London to Manchester. With City looking more and more powerful. Will Carlos Tevez prosper as a result?Carlos Tevez’s future at Manchester City has been in question now for quite some time. It’s a frustrating situation that’s made even worse by the Argentine’s refusal to come out with a statement regarding his future at the club one way or another. Given the way things stand at the moment and the lack of comment from either Tevez himself or his agent regarding his situation at Manchester City, I’d say there’s a fair chance he’ll be leaving Eastlands this summer.

If he does leave, City fans will want to ensure that they get a good price for the striker and they’d probably favour that he moved abroad, so that he couldn’t come back to bite them (outside of the Champion’s League that is). Whether Roberto Mancini will be able to pull off a deal of this sort remains to be seen.

Several clubs are believed to be interested in the Argentine striker, first among which are Chelsea and Inter Milan. I’ve seen ‘reports’ on Football Corner that suggest that Real Madrid have entered the race for Tevez’s signature.  As is the usual way with this type of thing however, there are no quotes or sources provided for this information.

The story is rendered even more implausible by the strange price-tag they place around Tevez’s neck. According to Football Corner Manchester City would be willing to consider selling their captain for around £30m.

There’s simply no chance that City would sell their star player for £30m. They know better than anybody exactly how good he is and how much he’s worth. It’s fair to say that despite his off-the-pitch antics, he’s one of the best strikers to grace the Premier League in the last decade. His strength, technique and poise would make him an asset to any team and I’m sure that City will be looking to field bids of around £40-50m for the striker.

Anything less strikes me as something of an insult for City. Tevez may well be moving on this summer, but to suggest that City would let him do so for such a meagre reward just doesn’t seem plausible.
