Why Manchester City fans shouldn’t mourn his loss

|

There has been a power shift from London to Manchester. With City looking more and more powerful. Will Carlos Tevez prosper as a result?First things first: Carlos Tevez has been a fantastic asset for Manchester City on the pitch since day one. My belief that City are ready to move on and adapt to life without their captain doesn’t change that fact. The time has come however, to consider whether City really need him next season. Carlos Tevez has been deliberately coy about his Manchester City future. The ambiguity has been remarkably frustrating for fans, who just want to know one way or another whether he’ll be a City player next season. If he is seeking a move out of Eastlands, however, I don’t believe that Manchester City fans should mourn his absence.

Whilst Tevez has had an inordinately good influence on the pitch, his off-the-pitch antics have left a lot to be desired. These misdoings have been well documented and aren’t really worth digging up again, except to say that they are seemingly behind the Argentine international. Would anybody really be that surprised, however, if he were to stay and to find himself embroiled in some other controversy somewhere down the line? This is Carlos Tevez we are talking about after all.

As club captain Tevez has a responsibility for maintaining morale and unity amongst the squad and that’s something that even his staunchest defenders can’t claim he’s been successful at doing. At the very least, a club captain shouldn’t be a disruptive influence and in that regard, Carlos Tevez has been a failure during his time with Manchester City.

I understand that players like Carlos Tevez don’t come along every day. I would dispute, however, that he’s irreplaceable. For a start, given how good a player he is, he’s going to bring in a hefty transfer fee. I’m sure that Mancini will be unwilling to accept anything less than £40-50m for the Argentine’s services and this money is sure to be reimbursed back into the squad.

It’s already been noticed that Tevez’s absence from team-sheets tends to aid City’s all-round team-play. No longer are City’s more creative players always looking for that ball into Tevez and as a result, City’s playing style has diversified. This has helped numerous City players to develop and come into their own. It’s like his absence has ‘freed up’ a number of important players who have proved equal to the additional responsibilities placed upon their shoulders.

Given that I fully expect Edin Dzeko to come into his own next season and Mario Balotelli to further his development, I don’t believe his absence would be felt too heavily when it comes to his goal-scoring contribution. There will still be goals, they are just likely to be spread throughout the team and Man City won’t find themselves leaning too heavily on one striker for its goals.

I appreciate everything that Tevez has done for City, but his inability to settle is remarkably frustrating. My point is not that City should seek to get rid of Tevez. It is merely to say that if he does want out of the club, Manchester City will still continue along its upward trajectory without him. Either way, the future is extremely promising.

SORRY TO DISAPPOINT, BUT TEVEZ WON’T BE GOING ANYWHERE, AS MUCH AS YOU’D LIKE TO SEE IT HAPPEN

Yes, I agree in every respect.
Whilst undoubtedly a very good player, he is undoubtedly a disruptive influence and not a good team captain.
His explanation for wishing to leave City earlier in the season was that he missed his family in Argentina. But now we hear he´s considering joining Chelsea?
There must be equally good players available for City to buy who don´t come with all his baggage!

I agree with many of the above sentiments. However, I don’t think either Abu dhabi, the management team or the fans would be happy with a “promising future.” The bar is now much higher than that. Success next season is the Premiership title. Banking on Balo and Dzeko to come good in terms of goals is one thing… But after Tevez there are only 6 goals from Balo, 4 goals from Silva and a couple from Patrick “Last Season” Vieira to shout about. If we expect more than a couple of goals each season from defensive midfielders and defenders, then we could be kissing the title goodbye. Arsenal have won nothing this season by expecting goals from the whole team. Title-winners usually have exceptionally prolific strikers, don’t they?
