The Football Coffee Break: The State of the Liverpool and Manchester United rivalry [Video Blog]

|

With Manchester United well on their way to a 19th Premier League title, it’s a difficult time to be a Liverpool fan. Whilst domestic success has evaded Liverpool for a while now, their Manchester based rivals have been positively rolling in it. With Liverpool fans no longer able to appeal to history and hold their own 19 titles over the Red Devil’s heads, the age of complacency must come to an end.  With honours even in the title-stakes, it’s time to for Liverpool to reassert themselves as a genuine force at the top of the Premier League.

If the rhetoric stops and Liverpool begin to prove themselves on the pitch once more, not just in slanging matches, then success may find them once more. Who knows, with the surge of good feeling towards Kenny Dalglish and the wonderful performances his side have churned out since his arrival, next year could be Liverpool’s year. The state of the Liverpool and Manchester United rivalry is what’s up for discussion in this week’s video blog, written, directed and starring Tom Skinner. Tom tackles:

  • What’s the best way for Liverpool fans to deal with Manchester United’s success?
  • At this stage does it really matter who had the best title-winning starting 11?
  • How Liverpool must respond to Manchester United claiming their 19th title.
  • Does success in the past matter if you’re pants in the present?

liverpool only have 18 titles, and only ever will, get your facts right!

  • Jason says:

and i can’t believe you used the phrase “next year could be liverpool’s year” like we haven’t heard that for 20 odd years!

  • RedNProud says:

Records are there to be broken and the simple truth is that during the Premiership era ManU have earned thier titles while we have simply not been good enough.

However, football is a “funny old game” and Liverpool have new owners who have reduced the clubs debt and seem to have a sound financial plan whereas ManU’s debt, while servicable seems to be mounting.

  • tom skinner says:

never used the phrase “next year”. could be many years until liverpool get their arse in gear, especially with city and tottenham making a name for themselves. however, all the right moves are being made at the club for liverpool fans to have every right to be optimistic. even under benitez if we beat stoke twice in 07/08 we would have won the league (but of course, “if ifs and buts where candy and nuts we’d all have a wonderful christmas”) 5 years ago you would have said the chances of city getting into the champions league were less likely than a baby monkey riding a pig backwards… but here we are http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_sfnQDr1-o

i agree with you mr skinner, liverpool will be competing again soon because they there’s no record to lose now, only to gain. lmao at the beatles bit btw

  • Chris Sloane says:

Good to see more “coffee breaks.” I think Liverpool lost deliberately yesterday. With no Europa “Dani Minogue” :p League distraction Liverpool could genuinly make a title push. They’ll spend big in summer!

  • Chris "Xabi Alonso" Padyy says:

    class! pure class!
