Should Arsenal match Real Madrid’s £25m asking price?

|

Written by Tony Merakli for Gunnersphere.com: It has been reported that out-of-favour Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, has singled out Arsenal as his desired destination this summer, after being told by Jose Mourinho that he will not be a regular at the Bernabeu, according to Metro.

The 23-year-old’s agent is believed to be holding extensive talks with the Spanish club in order to get his client more playing time next season. However, after Real Madrid President Florentino Perez stated that he was not prepared to make such promises, Benzema’s representative has correspondingly told the club to consider letting the striker depart the Spanish capital this summer.

Reports are suggesting that an asking price of £25 million (€28 million) would be an acceptable amount to secure Benzema’s services this summer, and having made an initial enquiry into the striker’s availability last week, Arsenal are expected to continue with interest and negotiate a feasible deal for the France international.

The French star is said to have chosen the Emirates Stadium over his other options, which supposedly include Serie A outfits Juventus and Inter Milan, or a possible return to his native France, for the chance to work with fellow Frenchman Arsene Wenger.

However, it remains to be seen whether frugal Wenger would be willing to open his cheque book and spend what would be viewed as a colossal amount of cash on one player, of if Real Madrid would be prepared to lower their valuation if Benzema refuses to listen to other options.

I can’t stress how much I would love to see this guy at Arsenal. I have been a fan of Benzema since his days at Lyon, and also tipped him to become a world-class striker in the future.

I would certainly try to lower his valuation if I was Wenger, but if Real refuse to budge, then ultimately I would just meet the Spanish club’s £25 million asking price.

Arsenal could certainly do with another striker on board this summer, and to be honest, I can’t think of any other striker out there who is more superior than Karim Benzema.

yes, arsene wenger should raise the bid until 25M as the real asking price.

  • daljit says:

  • eniola mccoy says:

Arsenal have the money to bring this lad to the Emirates. Wenger should go for him and change the playing formation to 4-4-2.

  • kevmacn says:

With this player arsenal could go back to a 4.4.2 and play him and rvp together. robin loves to come deep and play little passes and benzema is more central and gets on the end of things. could be a real lethal pair up front.

Get scott parker off the hammers and play him along side fab in the middle. bring in hazard to play wide left and walcot stays wide right. I know people say where does wilshere play but when do we ever have all our midfielders fit so they all would get game time and it creates real competition for a change.

Another quality defender, say gary cahill or chris samba. and i see rob green is out of contract so why not offer him a deal as competition for schzesney.

there is four signings and only three that cost money and everyone gets what they want, arsenal are fixed and back to there best.

Did anyone in his right frame of mind think Wenger will cough out 20million on a single player. That’s complete fallacy & my unborn will never swallow that story. Neither Benzima who is too expensive nor Parker who’s Wenger believe is already in his menopause (old) will come to arsenal.

  • daljit says:

The epl is physically demanding. For Arsenal to go for someone like the french striker who is 170 cm is really surprising.I know only a few epl players around this height:Arron ,spurs winger/Defoe/Andy johnson, and a handful of others.
These three guys are easily out muscled by the more physically intimidating defenders of which there are many in the epl.
Tevev has just scored a hattrick against Stoke. he maybe short but is muscular.I personally believe the gunners slow buildup is one reason why other teams have the measure of them.It maybe pleasing to the eye in terms of movement and passing, but it gives defenders time to harass the gunners as in the Villa game.I am not the only onw who says the gunners overplay/overpass.
No less than a respected footballer Koeman made the remarks.
Perhaps next season the gunners may cut down the passes to a more manageable figure and then the goals will flow. If not, even with the addition of new players,I don’t see how the gunners can challenge.
